We had the good fortune of connecting with Michael Thompson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Michael, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
I want my legacy to be that of an expert storyteller. When I began my career, I wanted to pursue film for the sake of wanting to be a visual storyteller. Being able to take a brilliantly told stories and translate them to screen has always been at the forefront of my mind. As I continued to work through my career and expand my repertoire, I learned that proper storytelling can be found in so many more paths than just film, Between the multitude of weddings, concerts, and all kinds of events, I found that same sort of passion in capturing and presenting the real life stories that people are creating on a daily. I’ve learned that I get that same sort of joy out of the little moments in life and have begun to put that same sort of energy that you would find on a film set into all of my projects so that the story, whatever it is, is told properly.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
One thing I want the world to know about me and my my brand is that I pride myself on making it a comfortable environment for my client. Over the years, I’ve learned that the best photos and videos are taken when the subject can feel good in their own skin. I do my best to get to know a client and do what I can to make sure that they have everything they need to truly be themselves in front of my camera. Keeping their unique identity in mind honestly gives me a great foundation for the shoot itself. When clients get a chance to fully express themselves and their desires for a shoot, it makes my job easier as an artist because the passion and energy that they bring inspires what sort of art I end up producing with them. Cameras truly capture a moment in its authenticity and if my clients are uncomfortable with a pose or any other factors on set, it shows. That’s why its always best to keep my clients as happy, comfy, and cozy at all times

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
For starters, you gotta go to Ponce City Market. Food, drinks, and usually some kinda event going on. Same for Krog Street Market. too many great restaurants and bars inside to choose just one . If you’re outside the perimeter, Marietta Square is a nice chill vibe. Mostly covered in good food, but you can catch a play, and even hit up a couple great bars. Gotta take a walk down the Beltline at some point. It honestly doesnt even matter where to start, any part of it is good.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to shoutout one of my best friends and business partner, Tim Lowe, AKA Time. We’ve been through wild ups and down both in this business and in our personal lives together. I wouldn’t be where I am today in this business if it weren’t for the way he’s been able to push me creatively and help me bring out the best of what I can do.
