We had the good fortune of connecting with Meosha Kimbrough and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Meosha, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have always wanted to be a “Professional”. In my eyes the ultimate way of showing your professionalism is through business ownership. I appreciate doing things in excellence so over 20 years ago I began to glean lessons from other ladies in business. Additionally, I frequently asked my family and friends about their likes and dislikes about interactions which they have had with Financial Service professionals. I heard some great stories and some horror stories. Equipped with this knowledge I forged ahead to provide Financial Literacy coaching to friends, family members and anyone else who would listen to what I had to say. After having about 10 years of market research under my belt I set out to start a non profit organization with my husband Michael. Deciding whether my business would be a for profit or non profit to me was a no brainer. I wanted to provide a service to the community which would be free to the community. Finally, I decided to start my own Financial Coaching business because I wanted to share lessons which I had learned during my financial journey and did not want to teach from a script which would be the case if I worked as an employee for a Financial Services firm. Besides I had experience working for a Financial Services firm for nearly 14 years so I felt it was my time to lead.

What should our readers know about your business?
I am most proud of the fact that the information that our firm has to share is life changing and can easily change entire family lineages. I am excited that we can share strategies with an 18 year old for example which could set them up to be millionaires at retirement by only investing $100 for 10 years. Conversely, we share strategies with individuals who are much older than 18 as well. I have come to where I am now with over 20 years of Financial Services experience by raising my hand for new assignments, asking questions and always being willing to go the extra mile. I have reinvented my professional career several times and have experience in Financial Services, Non Profit Management, Project Management and Procurement. At each turn I had a steep learning curve to overcome. However I have been able to overcome the learning curve and have excelled in each role. My career progression has been chartered by continued passion to reach the next goal. I have heard many no’s during my career. However I had to continue to push toward the mark. I have learned along the way that things will not always go the way that I want them to go or the way that I plan. However I must continue to move forward despite how bleak the outlook appears. MK5 Faith and Finances Inc. is an organization founded to enhance the financial capacities of all individuals. We want everyone to have at a minimum basic financial knowledge of budgeting, saving and building wealth. We do not charge for our services. Our payment is to see a world with communities of people living debt free and sharing the knowledge of their journey with others.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh my.. I am really a home body. If my best friend were to come to town I would be able to find us some great spots for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I am a foodie and read many reviews before deciding on a new restaurant.

Day 1 – Breakfast – Breakfast at Barney’s – Atlanta
Day 2 Lunch – Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen – Norcross or Alpharetta
Day 3 Dinner – The Capital Grille – Atlanta

Day 2 – 4 I would cook because eating out 3 meals a day for 5 days would not be healthy for my budget
Day 5 – Breakfast – Flying Biscuit – Atlanta
Day 5 – Lunch – South City Kitchen – Atlanta
Day 5 – Dinner – Canoe – Atlanta

I would not be able to stay up for drinks. 🙂

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mother Edna W. Holliday deserves a million accolades and more. My mom is the epitome of a woman boss. She has a heart of gold and always has time to listen, lend a helping hand, cook a good meal, mentor or do whatever is needed to get you over the hump. My mother introduced me to business through her entrepreneurial career in Real Estate. She made it clear that I should establish a career which pays my bills and affords me a comfortable living. She encouraged me to obtain an undergraduate and graduate degree as well as certifications. In all of her teaching she also encouraged me to have a side hustle which generated supplemental income which she called play money. I love her to life.

I would be remise if I did not thank my husband who is absolutely my rock. He is my sounding board and the consummate supporter. When we were planning to welcome our first son into the world he encouraged me to leave my corporate job to focus on my health and wellbeing and that of our new son. Michael encourages me in every endeavor and gives me true feedback which is always for my good. He is truly my soulmate.

My children, sisters and extended family also support me with love and encouragement.

Finally, my church family at Light of the World Christian Tabernacle Inc. and my sorority, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. have encouraged and supported me both personally and professionally.
