We had the good fortune of connecting with Meaghan Murphy-Alexander and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Meaghan, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
My love for home design and organization started at a very young age. I recall begging my cousin to declutter and organize her vanity where she held her daughter’s hair supplies. A place she used to avoid and not want to go into before I got to it. It brought me so much joy to brighten her day. In regards to my design interest, as far back as I can remember, I would move around my mom’s furniture and decor. I loved that my Mom was not only open to this but also very thankful for how good it made her feel when she walked into the space. That was the ultimate crux for me, creating beautiful and functional spaces that brought a smile to people’s faces. Making people feel good! Can it get any better than that?!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My background is in high-end residential design, and I went to a college in Boston where I received my Bachelor’s of Science in Interior Design (2014). After working in the design industry for 10 years, I started Home+Order in 2023. This start came after the unexpected passing of my father. Back in October, my dad had become unexpectedly ill and was brought to the ICU. During this time, I began to declutter, and organize their home in order to relieve the stress for my mom and dad when he came back home. However, after my dads unexpected passing, I quit my job to fully help my mom with getting the house staged and then cleared out once it had quickly sold. The process for me at times was overwhelming, messy, and sad but fulfilling to help my mom during this difficult time. After seeing the relief and happiness from the helping hand I was providing her, I knew I wanted to make a full time career out of doing this for others. I can truly say that I understand what my clients/potential clients are going through to a certain degree.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There are so many great restaurants and hangout spots to check out in Atlanta! To write out one day of fun, I would recommend going to Ponce City Market to walk the Beltline and stop at shops and/or galleries that speak to you. Head north and stop at Krog Street Market to eat (Recess – Latin-American/Spanish, Gu’s Dumplings – Chinese, or Fred’s Meat & Bread – Sandwiches) – great vibes and food. From there, go back to Ponce City Market, and then head to Sky Park to play mini golf, carnival games and to go down the slide. After playing around and about 30 minutes before sunset, get a table at Nine Mile Station – great views, good food, and a neat atmosphere. To finish off your day with some wine/non-alcoholic beverages, check out The Purple Corkscrew known for some of the best recommendations.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to shoutout my Husband, Mom, Mother In-Law, and Sister! Without their efforts, support, mentorship, love, and encouragement, I don’t think I would have launched my business. I am beyond grateful to have them in my life, and thank God everyday!
