We had the good fortune of connecting with Maya J and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Maya, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
The most important lesson my business has taught me two important things. One would be it is okay to step back, breathe, and disconnect for has long as you need. Running a business is exceptionally difficult. On top of that, it requires you to be a content creator, constantly on social media, attending social events, stepping out of your comfort zone, expanding your brand. That as a whole even as separate intensities can be exhausting and your customers, fan base, clientele will forget that you too are human. You get burned out, drained, you make mistakes all of the above. It is okay to disconnect from the social media, events, sales, emails… all of it. Some may try to guilt you into over working yourself, wanting services and products seconds after they are order. Forgetting the train does not run without the CEO, at his or hers highest mindset. If you want to shut down the whole station for a week to rekindle, you are never wrong for doing so and do not let anyone convince you other ways.
The second thing my business has taught me is how to be patient, great things does not come fast nor easy. All you can do is have pure intention behind your hard work.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
of course almost everyone in this world, feels like they are cut from a different cloth, which In a way it is true. We are all different in our own way, but when it comes to doing something that the majority population is trying to do, it is hard to cut out the difference. With me i see it as I’m so authentic, I’m so comfortable in my own shell, and everything about me, my energy, aura is just pure no one can top that, no one can top realness and love so.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Im from Atlanta, there’s I’m such a sit outside for hours and stare at the sky type of person if we being real. I will say my little itinerary would be starting each day connecting and meditating within self and each other, wether that’s spending some time at the park, a hike, going to the lake anything involving nature really. Come back freshen up, now it’s time for some brunch food at Gochas, or Johnnys World Famous Chicken and Waffles.*chefs kiss*. enjoy drinks, food, music, great vibes. After that we will go shopping at Greenbrier Mall. Remind you all of these events are located on the south side of Atlanta – College park area. People try to shit on Greenbrier Mall but they will have exactly what you’re looking for, if you ain’t got no haters you, ain’t popping so. Then I’d take my peoples to the illuminarum museum for a good sensory and picture back grounds. I’m not a club type of person so ending the night with insomnia cookies, Walking the city, hit the ferries wheel and Virgil’s kitchen for dinner again *chefs kiss*.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Man I’m not going to lie it’s not many people i would shout-out. Don’t get me wrong i will always give credit where it’s due, but to be real there’s only a handful of people that held me down with love the same way i have to them. My girlfriend Audi. She has her own business as an artist as well @regularwrld. She plays a big part in my getting up and go get it motto. The determination and drive she is filled with really does motivates me, including her creativity is just out of this world unexplainable. She also just dropped a book go cop that right now … “Another Trip” on Amazon. One of my good friends Aaliyah @aaliyahdaij, when i tell you that girl is the definition of versatile, she is my personal stylist, graphic designer, marketing consultant, every position you can think of all in one. On top of the support and genuine love she pours into anything i do as if it was my own. So big shoutout and love to my girl. When i make it , she’s coming right with me. Book her for modeling too. Lastly my friend Averie get at my girl for lashes, shout-out to my celebrity lash tech, when I’m up she with me fasho. I appreciate her realness in a short time of our relationship.
