We had the good fortune of connecting with Mary Ellen Patrick and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mary Ellen, how do you think about risk?

Risk? Oh yea, I know her, we go WAY back. I believe in playing it smart but I don’t believe in playing it safe. At least not all the time and certainly not when it comes to the things I am passionate about. Sometimes I do it scared and unprepared, other times I have my ducks in a row and backups in tow. But I just… do it. I’d rather risk it for the possibility of something than to not take a risk and have the guarantee of nothing. I’ve come to realize that I never truly lose when I bet on myself. Even if things don’t pan out exactly as planned, every experience teaches me something new and helps me level up.

Embracing risk has been a cornerstone of both my personal and professional growth. If I had waited for the stars to align perfectly and for all the conditions to be just right, I shudder to think where I’d be today. Sometimes, you’ve just got to take that leap of faith. There are often obstacles to overcome, challenges to tackle, and mountains to climb. But let me tell you, the view from the top? It’s absolutely worth it.

I watched a clip of a Steve Harvey video a few years ago where he talked about risk taking as one of the only ways to become successful. It’s a message that I carry with me and share as often as I can. “You’re gonna get wounded. You’re gonna get some tears but eventually, your parachute will open and you’ll start to soar. But if you do not jump, I promise you one thing, your parachute will never open. So you’re safe, but you’ll never soar.” And me? I want to soar.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

In 2014, I found myself at a crossroads. Freshly ousted from my job, I faced a decision that would shape the trajectory of my life. With my last paycheck in hand, I made a bold choice – I invested in my future by enrolling in real estate school. But this wasn’t a decision made overnight. My fascination with real estate had ignited at the tender age of 14, sparking a passion that refused to dim despite life’s twists and turns. Determined to turn my passion into a career, I embarked on a journey that tested my resolve every step of the way.

I’m from Chicago but Atlanta had my heart from day one. I eventually packed my dreams and determination, bidding farewell to the Windy City as I set my sights on a new horizon. I knew that a city bustling with other young professionals, booming businesses and bountiful real estate was just where I needed to be to do what I set out to do. It isn’t just about selling houses, or selling anything at all really. It’s about serving others. It’s about holding my clients’ hands as they navigate the intricate pathways of such a huge step in their lives. Especially my first time homebuyers, those are my babies. Their dreams become my mission, and together, we chart a course towards a brighter future. I am committed to ensuring my clients feel informed, empowered and confident throughout their journey. I do this for every dreamer who dares to believe in the power of possibility.

I’m a woman of many hats and talents and for so long, I thought I had to choose one. But why? Why limit myself or rob others of the experiences that my gifts bring? There’s no good reason, so I don’t. I do as my creative little heart desires. In addition to real estate, I help turn ordinary moments into extraordinary memories. The Grand Gesture is a boutique concierge that provides creative, carefully curated solutions to elevate intimate celebrations and gift giving. I believe in the magic of celebrating life’s special moments, big and small and I set out to create a space that brings joy, Love and connection to people’s lives in a profound way. It makes my day to make someone’s day!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There is no shortage of things to do in Atlanta but one of my favorite places, Chateau Elan, is tucked away about an hour away in Braselton. On absolutely stunning grounds, you can indulge in wine tastings and tours or melt the day away at the spa or a luxurious suite with great food to top it off. It’s the perfect backdrop for a solo staycation, romantic getaway or girls weekend away!
