We had the good fortune of connecting with Marshay Nicole and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marshay, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Most, if not all of us, have experienced working for companies where we are unappreciated, misused and abused. I wanted more for myself. I wanted to create my own dope ass work environment. Working freelance motivated me to do more for myself and my bank account.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
In my early career days as a hairstylist, I was more concerned with styling. Over time, I realized there was a desperate need for actual hair and scalp care in the black (textured) hair care community. Everything can’t be all lace fronts and box braids. We have beautiful, versatile hair. I wanted to showcase that. – I developed a full line of natural hair care products that cater to women that are ready to get back to the golden days of hair care. Using oils, herbs, roots, and flowers. I created something our community needed. No shade to the “celebrities” & “YouTube Enthusiasts”, but as a licensed cosmetologist and seasoned hair stylist, I prefer my products to come from just that. A licensed and knowledgeable PROFESSIONAL. This road to ‘success’ has been an elevated experience. I’ve learned so much along the way. Better business practices, marketing, the laws, etc. – I wouldn’t change a thing. When you put love and passion into what you do, you will THRIVE! What you nurture, will grow. So I’m here for all of it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m always down for some good grub, my first stop in Atlanta is ALWAYS Pappadeaux. Then a little Slutty Vegan. Of course you can’t miss out on a quick stop at the Waffle House, we didn’t have those in Brooklyn. So it still reigns at the top of my list for some morning, midday or midnight comfort food.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I give credit to the women responsible for my upbringing. My momma, aunties, siblings, cousins, friends. They were my supporters. My reflections and my pushers. Hey Queens, love ya’ll.
