We had the good fortune of connecting with Marcus Arnold and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marcus, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
To be able to work on different projects for clients and other companies. Having your own freelance clients helps you financially and makes me better as a artist overall.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
It all started when I was still a student at the Art Institute of Atlanta in my final year in 2017, I decided that Motion Design was the thing I wanted to do as my main career. I started looking up different studios both local in the Atlanta area and places like LA and New York. I asked as many people as I could for skype calls to introduce myself to them. Then once I graduated I worked a couple restaurant jobs here and they’re to survive and build my funds to start buying the software I needed. It wasn’t easy I would go to work by 9am and work tell 6, then I would work on my personal projects until 3am. The fatigue and stress got to me sometime but I keep pushing in hopes of getting more work in field. I eventually worked at a place here in Atlanta called Elevation and worked on a Georgia natural gas commercial which I didn’t see until the Super Bowl the next year, seeing it on the TV like that was awesome a really great experience. After that I worked at Creative Mammals a couple months later and about 2 years later landed my current position at Warner Bros Discovery.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would definitely take them out to the Illuminarium Atlanta bar, Nan Thai Fine Dining, and last but not least the high museum of Art here in Atlanta to finish of the week.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
In my personal story I have to give a shoutout, to Joey Korenman for his Freelance Manifesto book it helped me alot with understanding how the freelance part of this industry functions and what I should do to be successful in it. David Ariev a.k.a octane Jesus has been in many ways a mentor to me these last five years, I was able to meet up with him at NAB this past April and it was great meeting my hero. Another man that helped me out especially when I was first starting is David Glicksman he is a Art Director at Gensler a company that does alot of great Architecture work for company’s around the world. If it wasn’t for this guy I probably would have been lost when it comes down to knowing what I wanted to do in this industry.
