We had the good fortune of connecting with Makelor Berthoumieux and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Makelor, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
Risks are usually actions that feel foreign to what we’re comfortable doing but at our core, we know they’re the moves that will help us grow regardless of the results.

Making those uncomfortable decisions forced me to change my outlook on the world around me and allowed me to collect priceless experiences.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m extremely excited about the future. I’m currently restructuring my business in order to share my work in a way that’ll do it justice.

What makes me stand out is the fact that nobody can see the world and express it the way I can. I lean on that fact and I do what feels right.

I’ve gotten as far as I have thanks to all the other creatives I’ve collaborated with. They reinforce the love I have for my craft.

The only difficult part about my journey so far has been the personal changes I’ve had to make along the way. Those sorts of changes were vital to my progression in every aspect of life. I didn’t give myself another option.

I’m glad to say that I’m very early in my career and I’m looking forward to how my story plays out. For now, I just want the passion for what I do to be evident.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Atlanta wouldn’t be my ideal vacation spot, to be honest.

I would recommend anybody visiting to stop at Don Sige (College Park), Ikhlas Seafood (East Point), Little Bangkok, and Zyka (Decatur) for a good meal. American Wings (East Point) and Hungry AF have the best wings in my opinion.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d love to give a shoutout to journalist and community organizer, the late Oliver X.

He was instrumental in my development as a journalist and an all-around professional. Teaching through his actions, he showed me what it took to wear multiple hats successfully.

He gave his all to every person and endeavor he was connected to.
