We had the good fortune of connecting with M. Marisa and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi M., career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
First & foremost, I want to say thank you for having me be a part of this interview! The end goal I want to achieve in my music is to make music that people can fully relate to and that can make some kind of impact on the listeners as well. I like to make music that people can relate to and understand. I call myself the “songTELLER” because in all my music I write I am telling some kind of story that you can picture in your mind as you are listening to the lyrics. I’m always writing music that relates to something I have personally experience or things I have experienced from afar. I hope one day to be hearing my music playing on radio stations locally, nation wide, or globally. I also hope to be working with mainstream artists and write & produce music for other artists and become mainstream myself with my music.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Well…I am a R&B singer and songwriter. I have been singing since I was a little girl actually, but I didn’t start taking music serious until maybe like the year of 2014/2015 when I wanted to start recording music. I was doing a lot of covers back then, but I would say 2019 was the year I legit started writing my own music & that was the year I did my first real studio recording of a song I wrote at the time called “Hit Me Up”. I definitely have developed & changed as an artist since then when I hear that song. The road hasn’t been so easy for me at times dealing with the lack of support from people especially in my hometown which is not far from Atlanta called Cairo. I also had to rebrand myself as an artist & start connecting and networking with people who took my artist side more serious & could push me to my full potential as an artist. I learned that networking & building relationships is highly important when you’re trying to make it in the success world and just to keep moving forward because nothing comes to you or is handed to you. I learned to never give up even when you feel like nobody is watching because there is always someone who is noticing you from afar.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well..where do I start?? Haha. Atlanta is fun & stays lit, like you could never get bored here. Some of my top places I would take my best friend out here would be like a cool selfie museum like Gurl Mobb Museum or Selfie Xperience like we would get real cute & take cute pics with the props & backgrounds. We would do the Trap Museum & do the escape room together there haha. Some places to eat would be like The HIVE located in Buckhead for a good brunch, The Boiler also located in Buckhead for some good seafood, and The Cheesecake Factory at Perimeter Mall. We could do drinks and hookah at some lounges like Hendrixx Ultra Lounge which has became one of my favorite lounges out here, Ace Atlanta is cool too, and I like a good rooftop and one I liked was the Drawbar in West Midtown that I did for my birthday. It was real nice. We could also do fun things like Andretti, Puttshack, Georgia Aquarium, Zoo Atlanta stuff like that. I’m laidback so we would do stuff like that and even a picnic at a park somewhere too.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I just want to give a shoutout to first God himself. I feel like with God, all things are possible & without him all things are impossible. He definitely makes a way for everything & because of him I am highly blessed and favored. I also want to thank my friends and family who have supported me in all that I do & have encouraged me to never give up even when I feel like nobody is paying me any attention or when I get frustrated and discouraged at times. It all just means a lot to me to keep going & striving for greatness.
