We had the good fortune of connecting with LUNA and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi LUNA, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
My “career” started very early. My first shows were on the counter of my mom and dad’s kitchen singing Whitney Houston songs to my mother while she cooked. Those are my first memories of singing and I’ve been hooked on pursuing that feeling ever since. I definitely had some pit stops like wanting to be a figure skater or radio personality but entertaining has always been the goal.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I will say that pursuing an artistic or creative career is definitely a choice and most times not the easiest one. You have to love what you’re pursuing and be “in love with the process” as they say because, if you’re a good artist, the process is never-ending.

My music is an extension of myself. LUNA is the character that allows me to live freely and indulge my imaginations. I explore the world through her.

My proudest moments are when I’m singing a song and I look into the crowd and I see someone’s eyes light up because of something that I’ve said. That’s what I write for.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live in the most exciting place in the world, New York City. It possible to get into anything in this city, that’s why we love it! The food, people, and places reflect a rich tapestry of different cultures and way of life. I could just walk down the street and find so many interesting things to get into!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I owe a lot to the vision my mom had for me starting at a young age. She saw something in me that I tested and rebelled against in my middle school years. She knew that I loved singing and performing even though I pretended I didn’t to be “cool” around my friends but she made me go to Dekalb Elementary School of the Arts and from there Dekalb School of the Arts and it changed my entire life. I don’t think I would have a band if not for those years especially since I met my music director/friend Evan Tyor there.

I’ve been blessed with the best family that has ever lived. My father who helped mold my thinking, my older sister (who gave me a beautiful niece and nephew) and younger brother who are the most tenacious hustlers I’ve ever known, and my younger sister who’s my best friend and sounding board. I love you all past the moon!

The angel that guides me goes by the name of Richard Flynn. I’ll never forget you
