We had the good fortune of connecting with Loren Cisneros and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Loren, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Growing up I always liked art, so naturally that creativity leaked into my career. I wanted to be able to make my own things or have part in something unique/ I could call my own!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art can range from serious to cute depending on the piece. Currently, I sell funny or cute art since it does not take me as long to make as a more detailed composition would. I feel this sets me apart from others since my themes can widely range. I’d like to get more into selling my pieces that have deeper meanings or are on the tad bit darker side but I think for now I am most pound of my needle felting skills and the amount of events I’ve done so far! My needle felting has gotten to this level literally through ‘blood, sweat, and tears’. I’ve already lost track of the amount of times I practiced and pricked my finger. Event wise, I got here by never giving up on applying for events. Even the ones I thought I wouldn’t get into I applied to! I wanted to see who would accept me even though this is still my first year of freelancing. Eventually, through these events and networking I made friends and was able to get into and find out about even more events! I’d say the biggest challenge for me personally is time management since freelancing isn’t the only job I have right now. I have to try my best to get things done for events in time, plan things out, and even save up money for a certain time. To be honest, I’m still learning how to overcome this challenge but I’ve learned not worry too much about how much you can put out for one event. I learned to accept that quality over quantity is a better thought process since I can be proud of what I am selling.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If someone came down to my area I’d probably take them everywhere. From small restaurants in Pearland, to cute anime shops in Webster. I’d want them to see everything that is within my reach. We’d go to both the Baybrook Mall and the Galleria, drink boba and horchata, and just see what each place has to offer! For sure a place in Pearland specifically would have to be The Pearland Flea Market! I love exploring the flea market since you can find so many amazing things in the small booths/stands.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
To begin, I would love to shoutout my family since they have assisted me at my art events by helping me set up my tables and stay along side me for events. Likewise, my artistic friends have given me advice and guidance from things such as bettering my art to how to freelance. I’d also like to shoutout my friend Adrian specifically for helping me out a lot with event assistance, money, and a place to stay when out of town. Without all this support I have no idea if I’d be able to be where I am today!
