We had the good fortune of connecting with lisa williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi lisa, what do you attribute your success to?
There are 3 important characteristics that have contributed to the success of Cap8 Doors & Hardware:

1) Good/Great Employees- Exercising judicious decision making around hiring and firing of resources is one of the most critical components in ensuring our success. Ultimately, you can have the best process, products and services in place, but if you have employees who are unable or unwilling to execute effectively, you will fail.
2) Tenacity – The construction industry is a tough and competitive marketspace. In short, there are a lot of factors that can not be controlled and there are oftentimes challenging personalities. In order to thrive in this industry, you have to have tenacity and grit. There will be a lot of barriers thrown in your direction in every industry, but it is critical that you barrel through the barriers.
3) Faith – My faith is the cornerstone to my success. Overtime you realize that there will be financial cyclicality in any business and you have to maintain the wherewithal to withstand these challenges. Faith and the ability to trust in God is is paramount to success and emotional/spiritual wholeness.

What should our readers know about your business?
Cap8 Doors & Hardware is more than likely the only 100 percent Black and Woman owned door distribution company. the biggest lesson learned over the years is to be selective around who you work with and sometimes the best job you will ever take is the job that you never take.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am tremendous foodie, so if I had friends in town, I would take them to: Rasikas (Indian), Kendrid (Upscale American), Timber (Pizza). There is just a litany of fun stuff to do in DC, key among them are the outdoor bars and restaurants that line 14ht and U streets. There are ample museums and art galleries to choose from, key among the is the African American Civil War Museum, National Portrait Gallery and the National Museum of African American History and Culture.
