Hi Lesley, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
“Juggling the demands of three businesses is no small feat, but maintaining a healthy work-life balance is crucial for the success of Seven21 Designs, Melanin Fitness Nation, and The Warehouse Covington. As I’ve grown older, my perspective on balance has shifted significantly. I’ve found that starting my day with early morning workouts or yoga sets a positive tone, helping me tackle the day ahead with renewed energy.

Learning to say no to commitments that don’t align with my personal values or business goals has been instrumental in establishing boundaries. As business owners, it’s easy to fall into the trap of feeling obligated to help everyone all the time, often neglecting our own well-being in the process. However, I’ve come to realize that prioritizing self-care isn’t selfish—it’s essential for delivering my best work.

For me, achieving balance in business is an ongoing journey of self-discovery and adaptation. It’s about recognizing that our needs and circumstances evolve over time, requiring us to adjust our approach accordingly. I often remind my clients to celebrate their current achievements rather than constantly chasing the next big thing. After all, each moment is fleeting, and embracing the present ensures that we fully appreciate the journey.

In the dynamic world of entrepreneurship, what sets me apart is my unwavering dedication to resourcefulness and resilience. I intimately understand the challenges of navigating the intricate balance between limited budgets and time constraints, having experienced firsthand the necessity of pulling together resources to make my businesses thrive. I recall the days of sitting at my computer late into the night, after long hours of leadership and management duties, determined to create a website despite the exorbitant costs quoted by professionals. It was in those moments of necessity that I honed my skills, learning to adapt and innovate in order to overcome obstacles.

Fear has never deterred me from seeking knowledge or asking questions to enhance my understanding of business dynamics. I recognize that true success lies not in the absence of challenges, but in the willingness to confront them head-on. By meticulously analyzing situations and charting the course of my business early and often, I ensure that every decision aligns with my vision and values.

Yet, my journey extends beyond personal triumphs; it is rooted in a commitment to uplift those around me. I firmly believe in the power of community and the importance of sharing resources with those who may not have easy access.
