Meet Lauryn J | Serial Entrepreneur & Creative

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lauryn J and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lauryn, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I pursued a creative career because it was the only path that ever felt honest to who I am. Growing up, I was always the one making something out of nothing — creating unique makeup looks, drafting dream businesses in my notebooks, filming videos, curating outfits and moods like I was styling a movie. Creativity was how I survived, how I expressed myself, and eventually, how I began to heal.
After dropping out of college at 19 and navigating some deep personal losses, I realized I didn’t want to live a life that didn’t feel like my own. I tried the traditional path — corporate jobs, structure, security — but something was always missing. Creating gives me purpose. It lets me turn pain into power, vision into reality. Whether it’s launching my cosmetics brand, storytelling through digital media, or just showing up as my boldest self, creativity is my form of freedom.
This path hasn’t been easy, but it’s mine. And that’s what makes it worth it.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My career has always been rooted in creativity, reinvention, and storytelling. Right now, I wear a few different hats — I’m a beauty entrepreneur, digital creator, and creative director of my own life. I’m currently in the process of rebranding my cosmetics line.
What sets me apart is that everything I create has depth. It’s personal, intentional, and rooted in transformation — not just aesthetics. My work reflects real moments in my life: grief, burnout, healing, growth, joy. I’m not afraid to bring all of that to the table. I think people feel that.
Getting here wasn’t easy. I dropped out of college at 19. I battled self-doubt, imposter syndrome, financial uncertainty, and the pressure to follow a “safe” path. I also grieved the loss of loved ones and had to navigate what it means to rebuild yourself while still showing up for others. But I kept going — and every time I wanted to give up, I reminded myself that I’m creating a life I’ve never seen modeled. That’s hard, but it’s also sacred.
The biggest lessons I’ve learned are:
• You don’t have to have it all figured out to move forward.
• Rest is a part of the work.
• You’re allowed to evolve.
What I want the world to know is that my story is still unfolding — but it’s mine. And I hope that by sharing it, I give others permission to trust their own timelines and step into their own spotlight.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have so many people and energies to thank for where I am today. First, my shoutout goes to the women in my family. The strength, resilience, and creativity I carry are rooted in them. My mother and my late Aunt Tootie are both deeply spiritual, deeply stylish women who made things beautiful even when life was hard. I inherited that — the ability to create, to push forward, to pour love into everything I touch.
I also want to shout out the friends who have loved me through every version of myself — especially during the seasons when I didn’t fully know who I was becoming. Whether it was listening to my voice notes at 2 a.m., hyping up my ideas before I believed in them myself, or reminding me that I’m allowed to evolve — their support has meant everything
