We had the good fortune of connecting with LaToya W. and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi LaToya, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
The name eymjusme (I’m Jus Me) came to me in 1998 while only in the 6th grade. Long story short, I always felt like I was the lonely kid in school. I could hang with everyone but I’ve always felt I was different. One day while on a break I looked around and realized that I was all alone. I felt this presence come over me (it was literally like a hug from Jesus), I walked back into my classroom and wrote on a piece of paper “eymjusme”. That was my confirmation to embrace my different and be who God created me to be. Fast forward to 2020 I decided to create an apparel company to allow others the opportunity to showcase that they too were embracing who God created them to be. Whenever you see someone wearing “eymjusme apparel” let it be a simple reminder that you are beautiful, you are unique, and to embrace EVERYTHING about YOU, including what makes you different.
What should our readers know about your business?
Having a business is not easy at all. It really takes hard work, execution, discipline and a lot of faith. Even though its hard its so rewarding doing what you love. If someone were to ask me what is something that I could do for the rest of my life without getting paid financially for. I would say all things eymjusme. I love everything about it. I am most proud of having a brand that encourages people to not be like others regardless of society’s standards. I get most excited when strangers ask me what my shirt says or when other people tell me that people have stopped them to ask what their shirt says. It’s a really great conversation starter.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
So I am naturally a homebody and my love language is quality time so brunch and roof top dinners are always a great vibe for good food and great conversation. Of course, we have to go shopping so we would definitely go to the outlet mall and home decor stores. I also enjoy a little competition so we would go to Top Golf, axe throwing or bowling.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to shout out my family & friends for always supporting the idea of eymjusme along with the late night idea chats and photo sessions for the business. It does not go unnoticed & I promise one day I’ll be able to add you to the payroll LOL. To Tabitha Brown and her family for wearing eymjusme on “Friday’s with Tab & Chance”; that night literally changed my life! Lastly, of course God for that gentle hug and reminder that he created me to be different.
