We had the good fortune of connecting with Lashun Shipman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lashun, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When I was starting my own business I was very nervous. I was confident in the planning because I love to plan, ask questions, and I also had the mentorship from the community of friends who’d started their own business and has been successful. With the planning, I wrote down the general idea that I had. I then took that idea and asked myself questions on paper and answered them. I watched a lot of videos on Youtube about starting a business and joined a lot of Facebook support groups for businesses similar to mine. One thing that stuck out for me from all of my research was “You have to find your niche”. That was the hard part because I didn’t understand the importance of that and didn’t know what my niche could be. When I realized Real Estate and managing the process for agents was what I loved that became my niche. This allowed me to move forward with the rest of my planning. I thoroughly thought out my services, pricing, tools I would need to have, processes, and policies. This allowed me to feel confident when it was time to put myself out there.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I own and operate a Virtual Assistant company that focuses on providing Real Estate Contract to Close services, Compliance Services, and Listing Coordination. What sets my company a part from others is that we stick to our “C.O.R.E” values. Those values are great Communication, being Organized, being Resourceful, and Executing each transaction with care. I got here today with the support of my team, Real Estate peers, and close friends. I am very proud that I did not listen to the self-sabotaging thoughts in my head while starting this business. I am extremely excited to see the growth that’s brewing. Starting this business was not that difficult for me, but it took a lot of research and many long nights setting up systems. The lessons that I have learned along the way is to ensure you know your profit margins, grow steadily, and that you need to understand who your ideal customer/client is. I also learned that you have to stay firm with how you want your processes and practices are executed.

I want the world to know that it’s okay to have a bit of fear with following your entrepreneurship dreams. You have to remain determined, surround yourself with a community of people that will share their knowledge, adapt, and that things do not have to be perfect to get started. Just start somewhere.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m still learning the Atlanta area. So, we would explore the following:

Dining: Old Lady Gang, Slutty Vegan
Lounges/Bars: Bar Hop
Visit the Aquarium

In Chattanooga:

We’d go to the Fountainhead Taproom for drinks and to play games. Go hiking to see some of the best views.

Other days would be a go with the flow in either city. I really love randomly exploring new places.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I really want to thank Shelby Osborne, Michael Glaspie, and the entire Five Pillars Realty Team for allowing me to pick their brains and get coaching that I cherish to help me get to where I am. I want to thank Sara Denny because she’s been here with me since providing services in this niche. She’s sat with me to talk things out, help build systems, and basically help me keep me focused because I always have grand ideas. I also owe a lot to my significant other for just listening to me think things out loud while I’m in my growing phase.
