We had the good fortune of connecting with LaQuam Easter and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi LaQuam, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind FreshFace.’s success is the determination behind the creator (myself). Through all failures, I look at them as lessons and keep trying. Never give up. Never take a “no” or something not working out in one way to mean that it’s not possible for you. It just may not be the time for said thing.

What should our readers know about your business?
FreshFace. is rooted in skin health and high self-esteem. Years ago, my 6-year journey with chronic acne made me feel horrible about myself both emotionally and physically. I never wanted to cover it with makeup, but instead actually heal it and once I did, I knew that’s what I wanted to do for others but especially other black girls. It was hard for me to find the help back then that I now provide my clients. My services are affordable, effective and very much a necessity in the communities I serve. Some major lessons I’ve learned along the way is to think outside the box. Being hit with a global pandemic only 4 months after opening pushed me to very creative limits. I’ve also learned through a lot of trial and error how to even be a successful business owner. I started my business only 2 months after graduating from esthetics school and have never worked in a spa setting. Everything has been a learning experience but thankfully, my background in leadership has somewhat prepared me to be my own boss.

I want the world to know that life is worth living. So many times before this point I wanted to quit at life, I thought so low of myself and that I was so unworthy of anything great, and now everyday I’m able to bring happiness and peace to hundreds of peoples lives. I am so blessed and so proud to say I’m still here today.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love the West Hartford area I work in! There’s a beautiful flower garden park, amazing vegan restaurants, and of course a mall trip has to be in the plan.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to my partner, Brian, who has played and continues to play a major role in inspiring me to work hard and chase my dreams everyday.
