We had the good fortune of connecting with Kyasia Fields and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kyasia, what’s your definition for success?
Living in a world of instant gratification and measures based on “likes” or “social engagement” my mind has shifted a lot since the start of my journey with my definition of success. Initially success meant camaraderie from those in my field , family , friends , but I never really included myself in that equation . Now being almost 11 years in my field , success is knowing that without a shadow of a doubt I did the best that I could and I got the job done ; I put my all into it . For me , now , that is all that I need.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Being a beauty and special effects makeup artist for over 10 years I have always been able to put myself out there to get where I want in my journey. From the time I was 17 and I started doing prom makeup , to getting a job at Mac Cosmetics to shifting my focus more on my special effects working in Haunted Houses , on run ways , and on now in film, My journey hasn’t been the easiest but by far the most rewarding because I have only scratched the surface of where I am destined to be. I always try to remember my “why” when faced with an adversity ; because in my mind it’s “this or nothing”. I was destined to be a master in this field. I am a forever student and I study those who came before me , their techniques and what they did to get to where they are now,
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There is a really nice , relaxing cocktail bar in Decatur called Anansi that I love .
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my forever inspiration Anthony “Dragon “ Richardson . He is the reason I am the artist today , I miss him dearly.
