We had the good fortune of connecting with Korey Finney and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Korey, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The thought process behind starting my business was that there was not a lot of barbers in the area, that I lived in at the time. Some were just doing it as a hobby and a means to get by, so I felt that this was a career that I could capitalize in. So I started to develop a passion for the barbering craft.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What sets me apart from others is the way I conduct great business. One of the things that I am most excited about when it comes to my business is that I had big dreams of being able to cut hair for the people that I grew up watching on tv. This was something that I thought I could only dream about, but it has now become my reality. I am also excited about being able to look back and see where I started and all of the of progress I have made to get to where I am now. Having and creating my own hair and beard color enhancement has also brought me great excitement. Was it easy? NO! There was a lot of challenges along the way, but you have to push through them to get to where you want to be and achieve your goals in life. The lessons I have learned along the way is to never give up, everyday will not be a struggle. But working for yourself you have to work a lot harder then others. I would like to world to know that I am a great business man and entrepreneur.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The first spot I would take my friends would be Flemings Prime Steak House/other restaurants.
Next would be shopping at some of the places they don’t have at home.
Next would be maybe a basketball game or other sporting event.
Then I would take them to Blue Flame or bar hop in Buckhead.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to thank my brother Jameson Collins, for believing in me enough to fund my barber school journey.
I would like to thank my mother Verbenia Collins for being there for me. Always being supportive, loving, and giving uplifting words of encouragement.
I would like to give a shoutout to my barber instructor (Champ Hall), for teaching me the business behind being a barber. He didn’t just help to enhance my cutting ability, he showed me how become a business man after barbering.
I would like to thank Dorian Purnell for being a great mentor and helping me along the way.
I would like to give a special thanks to my uncle, the late Percy Finney for encouraging me to move to Atlanta to better myself and my career.
I would like to thank my family for being encouraging and supporting me in every business venture/personal endeavor I decide to take.
I would like to thank Sheniqua Bailey for always being there for me when ever I need her, and always offering moral support.
