We had the good fortune of connecting with Kira Annalise and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kira and Willie, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
We aren’t in any position to tell anyone how to be successful but to both of us the most important quality behind anything we do is authenticity. If you aren’t real, be it on stage or on an album, people can hear that. It works both ways though and people can absolutely hear when you’ve lived the songs you sing. I think that’s not only the most important factor but it’s the only one that really matters.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Willie and I formed The Waymores in 2018 as a way to make ends meet when we weren’t on the road with our separate full bands. We really never expected it to go anywhere other than local bars and stages. We made a little video at our family farm of us covering John Prine’s In Spite of Ourselves and posted it on social media. Someone in Arizona got ahold of it and booked us for a house concert so I booked a tour from GA to AZ to make it all make sense and we just never stopped. We’ve since toured in 6 or 7 different countries and for countless miles. I think if we are somehow set apart from all of the others trying to make a living playing music, it’s because we can’t do anything else. We live for this. This life is in our blood and we’ll continue to do whatever it takes to see the world through music. The will to keep going is what sets us apart. This has never been easy. There are absolutely heartbreaking moments in this line of work,more-so in this industry than in most but we just keep going. Maybe we’re idiots. We’ll never know. We hope that our songs help people in some way. We hope that our time on stage is as fun for everyone as it is for us. We hope to inspire the next people to do what we’re doing.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We love catching shows at Eddie’s Attic because it’s nice and intimate. Last time some buddies were in town we went from Eddie’s to Trackside Tavern and that was a lot of fun. OTP we have a monthly residency at Monkey Barrel in Marietta GA and we try to stop in and see hey to everyone anytime we’re home off the road so we’d definitely take a friend or several friends there.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Kira: In my story, Willie is the reason. I met him 100 years ago in a dive bar and he was on stage with his full band.. I had never really heard country music like that before and it opened up a whole new world for me. I fell for him and the music very quickly. We had been together for a long time before we decided to team up but once we did, we fell more in love with the life we were creating and with each other. Life on the road isn’t for everyone but it’s absolutely for us..
Willie:: Ron Crawford. I was stationed with him in the Navy on the USS Kitty Hawk. He was the guy that convinced me to write my own songs. And sat with me and helped me draft me first ever song. I have no recollection of how good or bad the song was. But I remember him saying “song writing is easy, you shouldn’t be scared of trying to write one”
I was probably only 20 years old and we were in San Diego.
