We had the good fortune of connecting with King Markus Baldwin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi King Markus, how does your business help the community?
My business has helped and impacted the community in so many ways by bringing a awareness to health and fitness and making it fun and cool to be apart of something . 300 Armyfitness / Trapfitness has ,in my humblest opinion changed the landscape of what the preconceived notion of what fitness is in Montgomery, Al. We set trends and went against the grain to introduce a wide audience to fitness and doing it our “ YOUR “ terms . We make it comfortable for all ages all shapes and sixes and backgrounds to come together and be apart of a group dynamic and formulate your fitness community . It’s a family dynamic with us . In turn we teach the importance of health and fitness and making health conscious decisions especially in the black community , on a daily basis.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am the owner of 300 Army Fitness personal training LLC , a fitness camp i created dedicated to helping people in the community reach their goals with proper guidance and assistance to making that dream a reality . I started personal training in 2014 professionally but I’ve been in the fitness industry since 2012 when i competed in my very first bodybuilding competition at 19 and won first place in my weight class. Im also nationally qualified in bodybuilding and hold a state record in bodybuilding which i set in 2016 with a deadlift of 600 lbs at a body weight of 175 . Im currently an amateur boxer . What set my business apart from others is what i was able to do in my city that wasn’t prior . We made fitness the “ cool “ thing . We introduced novelty Bootcamp in the form of “ trap fitness “ , ( a bootcamp style workout dedicated to getting you active and motivated while moving to the booming sounds of your favorite trap genre music ) out of that novelty came , “ twerk fitness < glute camp , and so many more . Personal training has never been easy for me . I failed in this several times before i started getting recognition for it . It was a lot of times I didn’t know what i was going to do or should i even continue this career path but I state consistent and kept belief in myself and what i was doing. I went to the drawing board so many times before getting it “ right “ . The lessons I’ve learned along the way was staying consistent , perseverance all good things come to those that wait up ! And hard work . Always have a plan of action and a desire to perfect your craft. The proudest thing about my business is watching it flourish and being apart of someone’s life by helping them make changes to their daily habits with their fitness journeys . The people that I’ve helped has actually helped me in turn .they deserve the credit and im very appreciative of their support and trust in me and my brand .
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Best places to visit , hooters , walk ons , Itta Bena restuarant ( located within Wind creek casino ) Kobes Japanese restaurant , midtown pizza kitchen ,. Centennial restaurant I usual like to relax and escape at a cigar lounge so i frequent sanctuary cigar lounge , or hookah house which is nice little vibe spot off Atlanta hwy . Check out downtown are for site seeing and monuments . It’s a lot of historical places due to this being the home of the civil rights movement . The Rosa park museum , the legacy museum , wind creek casino ,
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to give a proper shoutout to all of those that helped me ,encouraged me ,inspired , get to where i am . As far influencing me in the fitness industry i say , Jason Lobdell aka MRtwoweeksout from Atlanta GA . He’s a big influence to me a far as just being true to me my brand and standing on my own principles . It’s ok to be confident and make some noise about it but not in a arrogant way . My mom , Sandra Watkins . My big bros Thomas Williams , Isiah Doaty , Winston Forte . Nehemiah Thomas & Omar Moore both great personal trainers in Atlanta . My kids without them I wouldn’t even have the motivation i needed to make anything happen .
