We had the good fortune of connecting with Keylo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Keylo, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk pushes people out of their comfort zone, and that’s mandatory to grow. I would not be where I am today without the risks I took. Once I finished grad school, my goal was to move straight to ATL and I did that. I never renewed my lease in MD even though I did not have a for sure job secured in ATL yet, but I went with faith and took a risk and it paid off.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
It wasn’t easy getting where I am today. I went through my own ups and downs and felt defeated at times, but I kept going. I knew I had and have a greater purpose, which was in music. I had an emphasis on audio during undergrad and after I graduated, I went to grad school at another university for something I really wasn’t interested in. I was unhappy. I found a graduate audio program I was interested in and got accepted and expanded on all of the knowledge I already had. I learned to never settle and to follow my heart. I’d rather say I tried and failed, rather than staying complacent and never trying.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would say activity-wise, Ponce city rooftop, Puttshack, Selfie-museum, Sivas. Food-wise, definitely Slutty Vegan, Lafonda, Tassilis.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family! Through it all, they have helped, motivated, and pushed me to stay resilient and grounded. They show their gratitude and appreciation for all my accomplishments and that keeps me going. I love yall!
