Meet Kevonte’ (KAYJAY) Johnson | Videographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kevonte’ (KAYJAY) Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kevonte’ (KAYJAY), have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
That’s a good question fr. Shiii you definitely gone know deep down if you ready to give up or keep going. My state of mind was always to keep going no matter how hard it got I just kept pushing and pushing and pushing, them opportunities gone show them results gone show the universe be so crazy that it knows that you ain’t give up. Then boom lil blessings start poppin up. So I believed in keep going everytime fr.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Hi, My name is Meredith Mauldin and I have a ministry called, Songlab which started in the fall of 2019. It started as a 2 1/2 day workshop to help teach and equip artist/ musicians and worship leaders in songwriting, but has become so much more. It has become a nationwide community of songwriters that support each other, collaborate and cheer each other on. We have recorded 5 EP’s highlighting some of the songs and artists that come to our Songlab workshops as well as started a podcast to encourage creatives in their process (cause we all need encouragement). We have held 50 Songlab’s all over the country but love hosting them locally in ATL where we are based.
It has definitely not been easy as I am a mom of 3 kids, a worship leader and writer myself and have a very small team to run Songlab events and all that comes with it. We have had to be very resourceful with our time and money to keep it going, plus navigating the complicated music admin (that artists love so much), but seeing peoples hearts come alive and return over and over makes it all worth it.
What would I want the world to know: I believe you are so much more creative in a fun and encouraging environment than one with negative pressure and criticism. Songlab loves to create spaces of celebration rather than competition where you are free to be uniquely you!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well, I live very close to Serenbe, so I would take them to dinner at “the Hill” . Saturday morning head to the Farmers market that has the cutest booths with anything from lotions to baked goods and farm fresh produce. We would take an afternoon to go hiking through Cochran Mills park with their beautiful trails and waterfalls, then grab a bamboo juice after. I would take them to Trilith for dinner one evening at ENZO and stop at Woodstone bakery for a coffee and treat.
You can’t miss Ponce City Market for a. little shopping and then one of my favorite restaurants Miller Union.
Serenbe Spa is pretty amazing as well!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
