We had the good fortune of connecting with Kellie Kilgore and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kellie, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I have worked for companies as a graphic designer since graduating with my degree in 2010. The thought process behind starting my own business was to have more freedom to do the type of design I want. Its much more interesting and keeps me learning new design ideas.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I work full-time as a graphic designer for a large company and I run my business when I’m not working. I work from home so that gives me the freedom to make quick changes or adjustments to client work if needed during the day.

The journey definitely was not easy but kelliekgraphics.com, is here and here to stay. I plan to work both for as long as I can.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Being a graphic designer truthfully doesn’t give a person a lot of free time, but in Charlotte where I live there are a lot of different food places, my favorite being STATS. The food is amazing and the atmosphere is a relaxed, club atmosphere. I am also a season ticket holder for the Panthers so I go to most of the games during the season.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My twin sister Rosie has always encouraged me stay motivated and to never give up, particularly when I was in college. She also looks at my design work when I need a second opinion on a project before I send to a client. Long before my clients began shouting me out on Facebook and Instagram, she was a second opinion on my design assignments at Winthrop, therefore she has been there since the very beginning, literally.
