We had the good fortune of connecting with Keisha Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Keisha, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When I started Flawed & BeYOUtiful, I had one thought in mind. I wanted to create a business to uplift, inspire and empower women. Women are the backbone of our families, businesses, and world. As women we wear multiple hats through the course of the day and sometimes, we take on the weight of others and the world. With all that we carry it’s easy for us to suffer in silence but keep moving forward with tears in our eyes and a smile upon our faces. I believe everyone woman should feel beYOUtiful and be comfortable in her own skin.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Flawed & BeYOUtiful was started in 2016 after overcoming my 15 year journey of sexual assault, childhood molestation, low self-esteem and insecurity. Flawed & BeYOUtiful is branded on empowering women to be unapologetically the best version of themselves by embracing their flaws and all. Flawed & BeYOUtiful is a luxury cosmetics line providing high quality pigmented and long wear products. Each product is named to empower, inspire, and uplift women. We recently added the Pretty Princess Lip Gloss collection and each lip gloss is named after a BeYOUtiful little princess. I am most proud and excited that Flawed & BeYOUtiful is continually growing and we are staying true to our mission. Starting a business is not for the faint at heart. It takes dedication and tough skin. The beauty industry can be overwhelming and others will tell you not to start another cosmetics brand. However, I SAY DO IT!!! I love hearing back from customers stating how much they LOVE our products. That’s all the motivation Need to keep going. Flawed & BeYOUtiful was created with women like myself in mind. No matter what battles we face or overcome we have the war wound to remind us that even in our flaws we are still beautiful.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When my friends come to the city there are a few places that are a MUST visit. Blue Rose Art in Douglasville is a hidden gem. The art gallery is amazing, GREAT food and music. The Blueberry Lemonade is a must try. 10th & Piedmont- Great food!! Center for Civil and Human Rights Georgia Aquarium Ponce City Market The Battery Atlanta The Trap Museum The Selfie Museum Hattie Marie’s BBQ The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout is dedicated to God for entrusting me to carry the vision, my Smith Squad, family and friends that keeps me motivated and grounded.
