We had the good fortune of connecting with Kayla Price and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kayla, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
The most important lesson my businesses taught me was that no matter what, what’s meant for me will always be for me. As business owners we tend to get discouraged when we see someone look like us, sell the same thing as us, or have similarities in our businesses. At the end of the day we just have to keep in mind that people support us and shop with us because of who we are and who God made us to be through this business. No one shops with us just because of the name we go by. Of course the name is the first thing that gets their attention, but who you are and how you operate through your business is what keeps you know. That has been one of my biggest accomplishments this year. I’ve be able to brand myself as Kayla Zhanelle the hairstylist, nail tech, model, graphic designer, stylist, and creative director even though each of my businesses have their own registered name and booking system. I feel extremely favored for that alone because I’ve worked so hard to brand myself as a “Multi Hustle Queen” and due to opportunities like this one I can genuinely say I’ve made my mark !

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
After graduating high school in 2015 I immediately enrolled into college at Gordon State. From there I graduated with my associates in graphic design and art. After taking a break for about a year, in 2018 I decided to enroll into cosmetology school. After graduating from there with my masters in cosmetology I started up my hair and nail business. (@slayby_Kayy on Instagram) I remained self employed for about 2 years just building my businesses. While still making logos and designing business cards as one business I took clients and taught nail workshops as well. In 2020 when quarantine came about I started an all natural skincare line with my mom and little sister called Just BeeYouTiful.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A visit to the city of course! My ideal day out would be waking up and attending brunch at the Hive in bulkhead for hookah and mimosas. From there we’d do some shopping around Atlantic station. Now that winter is approaching ice skating and light shows around the area are an option as well. Ending the night at my favorite restaurant YardHouse would just set the tone for a great night.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
HUGE shoutout to MS Photography for helping me build my portfolio to what it is now. Within this year of modeling he’s helped put me in the position to take my career a whole lot farther than I would’ve expected. He saw something in me and helped me get this far so I’m extremely grateful.
