We had the good fortune of connecting with Katrina Garnes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Katrina, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
I would say that three habits come to mind. The first being my perseverance. My willingness to keep pushing forward despite obstacles and naysayers. The second, I would say, is my ability to organize and manage multiple projects at once. Organizing effectively is the key to maintaining your business for optimal success and meeting deadlines and for your sake of your mental health, maintaining your sanity. The third would have to be staying aggressive in my pursuit of success. Maintaining your productivity is the key to success and winning.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My journey started when I was in undergrad at Francis Marion University. It was a journey of curiosity. I came from a small town. So going into undergrad in a slightly larger city was an eye-opening experience and an excellent learning opportunity. I thought that I would be a writer, I even ended up doing two internships in a radio station, but my focus soon changed to television broadcasting. From there, I did my first television internship at WMBF News in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. I wanted to learn every aspect of production including; interviewing, video editing, audio, lighting, you name it! I did a lot of research, a lot of studying, a lot of shadowing outside of school to figure out where I truly wanted to be. That eventually led to me interviewing local public figures, starting a web show, making somewhat of a name for myself as a rising young entrepreneur in the business community, and ultimately creating a Cold Storm Media Productions LLC. Cold Storm Media has been ever-evolving since then. My company offers a range of creative services for businesses, including marketing strategies, visual branding, website development, virtual event production and management and much more! I am also the owner of Delectable Vending, where I own several vending machines placed in businesses across Metro Atlanta. I have my personal brand my with a vision of creating spaces of empowerment and learning for WOC by offering a variety of 1:1 services, training, workshops, creating digital products, event opportunities, speaking opportunities, mentorship and much more.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love being outdoors. Sweetwater Creek State Park is one of my favorite places to go and take friends. I love a great bite to eat! If we’re on the go, definitely Local Green Atlanta. For a great dine in experience, anywhere with oysters will be just fine! From Ray’s On The River, to Atlanta Fish Market or The Optimist.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
March is Women’s History month which couldn’t be more meaningful in acknowledging why I am where I am today. I come from a lineage of strong, fearless, and ambitious women. Without my family, I would not be where I am today.
