Meet Katrice Thompson | Travel Nurse, CEO, Entrepreneur, Philanthropist & Author

We had the good fortune of connecting with Katrice Thompson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Katrice, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ll never forget the night God gave me this vision. I was at a very low point in my life- mentally and financially. I know we’ve all been there before. I remember just talking to God telling Him I was empty. I remember crying out asking him to make my Purpose clear to me. Through the years- I’ve attempted several different Businesses. I had some success and I had some failures. That’s one thing about being an Entrepreneur- YOU CAN’T BE AFRAID TO FAIL! I remember crying and praying and that night when I went to sleep- God showed me the vision in the form of a dream. It was about 3am in the morning and I just got up and started to write ideas and a plan. I was so excited that morning that I called my daughter- who at the time was in Nursing school working towards her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing to tell her about the vision. I told her that I wanted us to do this together and she immediately jumped on-board. After being in the Healthcare field for two decades and giving so much to my patients, past staff, families, and mentees that I’ve had through the years- God had given me a vision where I could incorporate four of things that I love most- Healthcare, Fashion, Traveling, and Giving Back and that’s how GLAM SCRUBWEAR evolved. I didn’t know much about the Healthcare Fashion/ Merchandising Business but I started to do research to learn that it was a 10 Billion Dollar Industry. It has always been my Dream to have great Wealth- but not for personal gain but for the Blessing I could be to others. I’ve always had a “HEART” to “SERVE and GIVE BACK”. The more and more I researched and I would seek God for guidance – the more I could see things coming to fruition and the vision become clearer. My daughter and I (Kash) who is my Business partner and I came up with a way to include “GIVING BACK” and that’s how the GIFTS OF GLAM Initiative came into play. Our goal is for this initiative to make a POSITIVE IMPACT and DIFFERENCE locally, statewide, and globally.  I truly believe if instead of starting a Business to make money- You start a Business to MAKE A DIFFERENCE- You’ll NEVER fail.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are GLAM SCRUBWEAR and Our Mission is to introduce an innovative and fashionable breakthrough to the Healthcare world by providing trendy, stylish, comfortable uniforms while merging with new futuristic concepts in work wear. Glam Scrubwear seeks to inspire healthcare professionals of all backgrounds, sizes and shapes with the convenience of wearing dual purpose uniforms in the workplace with confidence, style, and grace. One of the most exciting parts of Our Business to me is the GIFTS of GLAM Initiative component. I’m so excited about it because it gives us the opportunity to give back and to MAKE A DIFFERENCE. There are three (3) components to the Initiative- Gifts of LOVE (where we will Donate a monetary gift to an Organization annually (some examples are The Alzheimer’s Association, Diabetes Association of America, American Heart Association, Operation Smile, Cancer Fund of America, AIDS Healthcare Foundation, African Medical Research, United Way, etc)- Gifts of COMPASSION- we pledge to make a difference in the fight against homelessness. We will give monetary donations to food banks, purchase personal hygiene items for shelters, as well as host an annual event “Kind Souls give Soles Gala” (shoe drive) in which we will be supplying new and gently used shoes to individuals in need, and our 3rd component- Gifts of EDUCATION- where we will be providing Scholarships for Nursing students enrolled in an accredited LPN or RN (ADN or BSN) program by providing tuition assistance for individuals with financial difficulties who will make a commitment of at least 2 years at a facility in a Health Profession Shortage Area (HPSA)- by addressing the primary care shortage a) we are ensuring access to healthcare for everyone, regardless of their ability to pay b) we are helping prevent disease and illness c) we are helping to provide care for the most vulnerable people who may otherwise go without care. We also will pledge to make a monetary donation each year to a HBCU  Historically Black Colleges and Universities) of choice.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I absolutely LOVE traveling so this one is pretty easy. I am so detailed and my family and friends always laugh because whenever we take a trips- I always make an itinerary. I find the best places to eat, the most adventurous places to go to capture the most unique and unforgettable experiences. I think one of the most exciting things I’ve done was when I went SWIMMING with SHARKS in Exumas, Bahamas. My heart just started beating fast- yes I’m that LADY- the Skydiving, Rock-Climbing, Tiger Holding Diva- so if you go anywhere with me you will definitely be in for a big adventure.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to thank God for His unconditional love, mercy, protection, and guidance. I’d like to thank my daughter KaShirah aka “KASH” for embarking on this journey with me. I’d like to thank my mentor Dr. Velma Trayham and The Millionaire Mastermind Academy for the knowledge, wisdom, and all that you do. A huge “THANK YOU” to my family, friends, and loved ones who support and believe in me.
