We had the good fortune of connecting with Karyn Burrell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Karyn, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.
When I first started my business an end goal wasn’t something that I thought much about. I originally started my company because I wanted a lucrative side job. My main career is in the legal field, so becoming an attorney has always been my end goal. Recently, while in the process of rebranding my business I realized that my end goal is to help as many people as I can and rebuild my community by simply doing what I love; crafting cocktails and being a legal professional. It’s not about how much you make or how much you have, but it’s about how many people you impact and help. While growing up in a small town in southern Illinois (East Saint Louis), I witnessed just how important it is for people to reach back within their communities and pull people up with them. By the end of my career, I want to be professionally known as the lawyer who made a big impact not just by practicing law, but also crafting cocktails.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Mixi Maid is an Atlanta-based luxury cocktail company that provides premium small-batch crafted cocktails, boozy treats, and non-traditional mimosa bars. Our cocktails and treats are available for both local delivery and pickup. I am so excited about this new relaunch; our cocktails will be served in a 30 oz bottle! All of our bottles are insulated and 100% reusable. Unlike other cocktail businesses around the city we use fresh ingredients, make our own syrups using low carb sweeteners, and all of our carbonated ingredients are made in-house using sparkling water as a base. Our first year in business was surprisingly very successful although it was during a global pandemic. However, the two most important lessons that I learned were quality over quantity and to never undervalue your work. When people hear or see the name Mixi Maid I want them to think of us as the Starbucks of cocktails.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First, I would like to say that I love being a tourist of Atlanta! (Although I’ve been living here for 6 years, lol.) Here’s a list of a few places and restaurants I’d visit with friends:

  • Ponce City Market/Rooftop
  • Buckhead Village
  • Slutty Vegan
  • Mixi Maid
  • The Painted Duck or The Painted Pin
  • Nana’s Chicken N Waffles or Café Intermezzo
  • Canoe Restaurant
  • Chateau Elan
  • Ferris Wheel
  • Selfie Rooms
  • Colletta
  • Jeni’s or Popbar

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
God deserves all the credit and recognition for my story and all of my success. No matter what obstacles life has thrown at me I’ve always managed to come out on the other side better than I was before all because I was able to rely on God’s word. So many things in my life have happened that just didn’t make sense both good and bad, but they did and I know that it was all because of my faith in God. My supporters are also to thank for their continuous support, generosity, love, and encouragement.
