We had the good fortune of connecting with Karmen Scott and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Karmen, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
When I first started college, I knew I would have a story to tell. I love to write so I figured blogging and writing a book were going to be my way of doing that. I also knew that people want to read stories that are vulnerable and relatable, and that’s what I want to give people. Real situations for real people to relate to.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I really just had to go for it! I had to believe that there is someone out there that needs to hear my story. Drowning out those doubts and telling myself that what I have to say is important and God has gifted me with the art of writing and storytelling so I can give my readers something to relate to. The one takeaway I want people to know about my blog and my writing, in general, is that I just want to help people and I want to make relatable content so people won’t ever feel like they are the only one’s that are dealing with tough situations like depression and anxiety. And I want to encourage them thar they can overcome and things do get better, even if it doesn’t feel like it.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Good question! I am new to Houston so I would definitely want to hit up places like The Breakfast Klub and the Turkey Leg Hut. We could also go to Galveston to see the beach. But honestly, we could do some exploring together since I am still getting to know the place myself! Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shoutout my husband, DJ. He is my biggest fan. He is one of the only two people that have read my novel so far and he is the one that is working to publish it because he believes in me. I have been scared to put that book out there and he is showing me that there is no time for fear because people need to hear this story. I also want to shoutout my one-year-old daughter because she keeps me going. I just look at her and know I want to be an example for her so she will know to fearlessly go for her dreams no matter what.
