We had the good fortune of connecting with Karine Dieuvil and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Karine, why did you pursue a creative career?
The most powerful realization I have come to is learning that there is nothing more reverent or admirable than submitting to your calling. I have somehow found myself amid this humbling ecosystem of ancient storytellers and at this point, I have a duty to serve that calling with the respect it demands. My name is Karine Dieuvil and I am an actress, producer, and creative consultant. I’ve always been hungry to maximize my impact while continuing to work in a dynamic environment that demands versatility. As a servant leader, I wanted to consistently interconnect my work to the growth and development of my team, and the world around me, through a purpose-driven mission. From establishing and funding non-profit organizations, to project managing the market launch of brands’ top-selling offerings, I made a steadfast commitment to exploring the lengths of my analytical and technical skills while stretching the use of my creativity. And resoundingly, I still found myself yearning to do more (guess that is at the heart of why I chose entrepreneurship, a 24/7 job). When I couldn’t find the perfect space to stretch the multiplicity of my skills, I just had to create it. Running a full-service creative consulting agency and media company is about balancing the driving digital motivation for lead generation and client development, optimizing the company’s online interface for maximized visibility, and aligning the brand’s media assets and identity to the company’s quantifiable objectives and mission. I love love love the dimensionality of the work, how narrative-driven the execution of my projects evolves, and how it honors my gifts as an artist in strategically distributing content that calls to me.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
At every pivotal period of my life, I have been drawn back to the radical love, transformative power, and uniquely community-driven pillars that sustain theatre. Acting in the world of theatre is one of my true callings, a sixth language, another tongue that I call to when I lose interest in the flavor of the one, I am chanting in. I can’t imagine doing anything else and, and I am lucky, I don’t have to. At the moment of this article, I will be debuting at Seven Stages Theatre in Atlanta Theatre, playing Angelique in the French play by Moliere called “Le Malade Imaginaire”. The whimsical comedy, bold and eccentric narrative-telling, are in alignment with the qualities and challenges that draw me towards the stage. This production, for so many reasons, is a deep celebration of my versatility as a multi-lingual artist and humble community member. What is yet to come for me, and the possibilities for collaboration and creation that lay awake for the future is what most excites me. None of this was necessarily easy, but I will say it’s hard to stop once you get started. So just do it. Today! And then just don’t stop. I never came from a place of exceptional privilege, being the oldest daughter of 5 in a Haitian immigrant home. My path was carved by a familiar story of “Black Excellence” that I still struggle to deconstruct and reapply with a more healthy lens. Nonetheless, the easiest thing to do was just start. The most courageous thing I ever did, was take a chance on myself.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would hit the Beltline for some much-needed sightseeing through a nice bike stroll through hearts of the city. Outlining the history and development of the city is our first stop. Educating ourselves about the communities we engage, visit, or vacation in, is an integral part of rebuilding our human sensibilities to community and true transformation. Dinner would be at Planta, a vegan restaurant, for the ultimate vegan sit-down experience in ATL! As a hiker, and lover of nature it is obligatory to take them through a few sensational hikes that make you feel a little lost within the city, like the East Palisades Trail and Bamboo Forest. Hopefully, we would be able to catch the Harn Museum of Art during its free monthly event, and after consuming some compelling visual art we would hit an evening show at a local theatre like Outfront or Horizon Theatre Company. Ensuring that I send them off with some fresh meals to cover the travels back home, we would make a final stop to Tassilli’s Raw Cafe before making our way to the airport!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Dr.Nikki Lanier, and the Slayed Woman Cohort was hands-down a transformative experience for me as a young black female professional navigating my career under the unique nuances of my niche background. The Slayed coaches equipped me with unmatched tools and resources to reach my untapped potential and I would recommend Harper-Slade company to anyone looking for career development and/or DEIAB education and implementation.

The mentorship and teaching I received via my Acting programs via Tim Altmeyer and Clayton Landey continue to reverberate through the obstacles I tackle today as a professional actress and business owner. It was through Tim’s classes that I forged my discipline and through Clayton’s tough love I learned to apply the hard work needed to supplement my raw talent. Both these artistic mentors have taught me a lot about what it means to show up for myself authentically as an artist and human, and I will always be grateful for their presence as a powerful creative, teacher, and mentor in my life!
