We had the good fortune of connecting with K Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi K, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I not only wanted to make money, but I wanted to leave a legacy for my son. I wanted to leave him something that he could be proud of and his kids could be proud of too.

What should our readers know about your business?
My business is a virtual loaded fries restaurant. What that means is, it’s only available online and through third party apps. You can’t just walk into a store and get these fries. That’s the basic version of that.

I’m mostly excited about the future of the virtual restaurant world. It’s a new wave that’s not temporary at all. It’s here to stay. for sure! Even major brands like McDonald’s and Applebees are getting in on the action!

I got to where I am today with major ambition and drive. I just believe in me. I don’t let anyone make me break that.

I’d be lying if I said it’s been easy. It’s not. Being a Black man and trying to navigate in this field of virtual restaurants, it’s challenging. Although we’re a popular brand, it’s hard trying to pitch to those who can help elevate the brand to another level. So instead, I’m working to not have to depend on other people to scale. And not only am I doing it for me, I’m doing it for the entire culture. Someone has to go first. If it has to be me, so be it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my homie was visiting my area, I’d have them kick it with me at some poetry nights, comedy shows, a museum, and a Cavs game. As far as food, we’d go to Kim’s Wings, Ella Mae’s Soulfood, Red Robin and Dave’s Hot Chicken.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to first thank my family and close friends. They’ve been there through some of my toughest times. They have encouraged me countless times. When I feel like giving up, they remind me of the dark times that I’ve already made it through. And God of course. Praise to God.

As far as books, Power of Broke by Daymond John is a great read. A great read!
