We had the good fortune of connecting with Julianna “SheeBangs” Toney and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Julianna, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I’m all about taking a “leap of faith”. I base everything on this. Whenever I have a crazy idea and I want to do something or start a new project/venture, especially if it scares me, I know I need to take that risk. So I would say that risk-taking plays a major role in my career as an artist. I don’t write anything down. I think of it, I imagine a great outcome, I self-doubt, I become afraid. And that’s when I know it’s time to go for it. It’s like an impulse of believing in yourself. I’ve done this when starting my brand and also learning and becoming a DJ.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a multidisciplinary artist. From painting, to graphic design, fashion design, music. I believe I can do it all. I am currently most proud of the short amount of time I learned to DJ. It’s been about 7 months and I have been booked and busy! That’s impressive and I sometimes can’t believe it. While I’m still learning and growing, there have been many challenges along the way. Technical difficulties, sketchy/difficult people, costs (I feel like I was buying so much DJ equipment lol). I have learned that everything cannot be smooth sailing. I’m bound to run into these things. What’s important is that I learn from them, get smarter and get better. Also I shouldn’t worry about the costs when I’m buying things that are necessary for my greatness and growth. Investing in myself is major.

Along the journey I’ve lost my mother and my brother. This is what pushes me to keep going. Life is short.

I want people to know that my brand SheeBangs is personal. Im human. I go through storms. Sometimes I create. Sometimes I take a break. My personal brand is a reflection of me and how I’m feeling at the moment. It could be music today and fashion tomorrow. But it will always be some form of art because that is what I am passionate about. And I appreciate every single person who has supported each avenue. That’s amazing.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shoutout my two friends Josiah and Dre. They have been overly supportive in my latest venture of becoming a DJ )which means a lot to me). Both financially and physically; helping me cover costs and showing up to events continuously.
