We had the good fortune of connecting with Julia Fenner and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Julia, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
I am a working mom of two children, a 3-month-old boy and a 3 1/2 year old girl. Being their mom is the hardest and most amazing thing I have ever done. With their early ages, I can confidently say that the most impactful thing my husband and I are doing for them is working on keeping our marriage healthy. Our marriage has to continue to be a priority because we are the cement that holds this family together and when we are working as a team and happy as a couple, that trickles down to the children. Our kids see us loving each other and having fun and that brings them joy as well. We parent them better and are more patient with them when we are doing well with each other. I can notice a huge difference in my patience with my kids when I’m not on the same page with my husband. We are also teaching our children how to have a healthy marriage at the same time. Not one that is always happy on the outside, as we are showing them how to talk about disagreements in a healthy way and still come out loving each other on the other end.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business looks a lot like the other female-led photography business in Atlanta, to be honest… my photos aren’t especially unique or creative. But what I know I do well that translates in my work is making people feel comfortable in front of the camera. A lot of adults do not enjoy having their pictures made for one reason or another, so it’s my goal to create a fun and safe environment for them. This ease shines through on their faces and body language in the photos that I end up capturing, which I believe sets me apart from other photographers. Anyone can learn how to compose a decent photograph, but if your subjects aren’t comfortable in their own skin as you are capturing them, then they won’t cherish the photos you take of them. The photos I take for families aren’t for me anyways, they are for those families/brides & grooms to cherish for many many years to come.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband, Chris Fenner deserves a big shout out. He’s a filmmaker and DP in Atlanta and beyond. When we first started dating in 2010, he really encouraged me to pursue photography, so I started doing that. He helped me create my company but then the rest was up to me. He has done an amazing job supporting me along the way, while also giving me the space and freedom to make the business my own. He is incredibly talented at filmmaking, but he also works at it harder than anyone I’ve ever seen. Then, he comes home and is a super sweet, fun dad to our kids.
