We had the good fortune of connecting with JR Carter and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi JR, what’s the end goal, career-wise?
The end goal is to become a generational artist and leave an impact on this generation and generations to come. Professionally, I want to be a record breaking, globally critically acclaimed artist and philanthropist, with my albums being number one on the Billboard charts, having received countless local and international prestigious music awards such as Grammys, American Music, Billboard Music, BRIT, World Music, etc. be mentioned amongst the great entertainers in my genres and inspire many upcoming artists to become great at the end of my career.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Nothing in life is easy, if it was everyone would be doing it. That sounds cliche but throughout my journey I have found that to be true. The amount of time, intensity, commitment and practice will separate the best from the rest. Hard work, sacrifices and dedication helped me get to where I am today. One of my challenges that I had to overcome was, I am completely deaf in one ear but I didn’t allow that to hinder me from learning and creating music on my own at such a young age.

I wanted to be great across many genres of music, therefore I create music in Pop, R&B, Afro Beats, Dancehall and EDM and that plus my tone is what sets me apart from others. I have released my first Afro Beats single “Ready” in June of 2021 and my follow up R&B single “Backseat” will be released shortly, followed by my first album “JR Carter” on all streaming platforms. This is what I am most proud and excited about. I want the world to know that despite my challenges, I was able to overcome and became a success.

The lessons that I have learned along the way are: always make sure your business is done the right way, which means surrounding yourself with the right team, especially a manager, an entertainment lawyer, an agent and an accountant. I’ve also learned that you should always keep educating yourself and learning everything you can about the business side of your passion so that you will actually enjoy doing what your love.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Kev deserves a lot of credit and recognition in my story. He has been an intricate part in my success. Kev is my support system, manager, life coach, mentor, strategist, trainer, security, chef, therapist and advisor. We have been up a lot of long nights and early mornings, strategizing on my next moves for the day, week and month. He does not like the spotlight or recognition because he is humble and genuine. Kev tells me what I need to hear and not what I want to hear and everyone needs someone who is like that, honest.
