We had the good fortune of connecting with Joshua Martin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joshua, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I’m from Jackson, Mississippi. I grew up in a single parent home, I watched my mother struggle to make ends meet and I promised her and myself that one day I would be a success. My path to success wasn’t traditional, I certainly struggled along the way. But thanks to my mother, sisters and others who never gave up on me, I’m now in position where I can take care of myself financially. Honestly, that is was success is to me. Self sufficiency.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I honestly wear many hats. I dont consider myself to be one thing. I’m an editor for a newspaper, I run my own business (JWM Productions LLC) which specializes in all forms of digital media, I’m a photographer, author and an aspiring film maker. Im mostly excited about my future. Cashing in on the many hours I have invested into my career. The work that I have put in behind the scenes as a production assistant, camera operator, producer is what helped me rise through the ranks in my city and has allowed me to thrive professionally. I pride myself on developing meaningful relationships with clients, other professionals and Jacksonians. This climb was difficult but along the way I learned that it’s not always about what you know but who you know. This relationships and work ethic gets you bigger and better opportunities. When people see me or JWM Productions, they will know that they are getting quality work with a smile.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite spots in Jackson mostly revolve around good food, vibes and scenery. I enjoy the resorviour and the bars on the water. I especially love of our food! The only place in the world where you can get a quality meal from a neighborhood gas station. To name a few spots specifically I recommend the M Bar, Pelican Cove on the Rez, Char – restaurant, the Village Kitchen for Burgers and Wings and Trio Downtown Eatery. Shoutout to Lou’s Full Serv, Harvey’s Fish Hut and Amerigos! A few other restaurants I frequent that offers good service and quality meals. If you’re looking for a laugh, stop by the Workout Room at Hal and Mal’s on Tuesdays.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a shoutout to God. It may sound cliche but it is the truth! My Lord has brought me a long way. Secondly, my mother. Our relationship has grown so much over the years that she has developed into my counselor and spiritual advisor, giving me sound advice on how to navigate the many pitfalls life has to offer. Third, I want to thank my village. The collection of women and men who always meet me with positive energy, loving words and constructive criticism. My sisters of course! Both are high school seniors and I cherish the moments we have created throughout the years. And lastly, the doubters. Nothing motivates you more than someone saying you can’t do something. Also I would love to shoutout the Jackson Advocate, 247Liveculture and the other platforms and brands Im affiliated with.
