We had the good fortune of connecting with Josh Holland and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Josh, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
We were employees on the marketing team at Atlanta Motorsports Park where we found out we worked well together and became good friends. After about a year of working as employees together, we started Downforce Media Group so that we could offer our services to other businesses. Atlanta Motorsports Park is still one of our clients and a key partner in what we do since most of our work is still automotive-related.

What should our readers know about your business?
When we first started Downforce we had no prior knowledge of how to even start a business, much less run one. We have learned a lot since then thanks to the mentors we have surrounded ourselves with and the experiences we’ve been a part of. Without the people who have helped us, I’m not sure we would have even thought about starting a business. In a way, I think our lack of experience is one area that sets us apart because we approach every project with a fresh mind and end up making high-end content in a much cheaper way than bigger, more experienced companies would be able to do.

The most important thing I want people to know about us is that we want to create relationships that go beyond what we do with our clients, contractors, and anyone else who interacts with us. We love getting to know people’s stories and what makes them unique. We’ve met incredible people who have helped us so much and we want to be able to do the same for them and anyone else we meet.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We’re huge fans of the North Georgia Mountains and the different hikes, towns, and attractions that are scattered everywhere. Atlanta Motorsports Park is a special place for us and we love taking friends karting there because it is such a unique experience. The track is like a rollercoaster with the elevation change and it’s just a great competitive environment where you can make memories you’ll remember for a long time.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We were able to start Downforce thanks to two key partners who helped us form a strong foundation to build our business on. My small group leader at Browns Bridge Church, David Bolton, is a serial entrepreneur who was instrumental in helping us get the business set up. He has continued to help us with everything from taxes to our entrepreneurial mindset. Our partnership with Atlanta Motorsports Park has also been a huge helping hand throughout the startup phase. The entire team at AMP has helped us learn so much and provided a place for our business to grow over the last year and a half.
