We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan-Paige Sudduth and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jordan-Paige, what do you want your legacy to be?
I want my legacy to be that I was always a hardworking, dedicated, ambitious creative who loved what she did. I want to be remembered for not letting anything stop me from following my dreams, whether that was my age, my level of experience, etc. Inspiring others has always been a dream of mine — I want to emulate both the people that I would have looked up to as a kid AND the people that I look up to now.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve already talked about the beginning of my career as a teen filmmaker, so I’ll skip ahead a few chapters and talk about what I focus on now — screenwriting. After making films for a few years, I knew that screenwriting was my favorite part of being behind the camera/part of the pre-production process, and I knew that’s what I wanted to go to school for. However, it was 2018-2019, and no schools in Georgia or the southeast in general, had programs that were dedicated solely to screenwriting.
One day a friend and I were talking, and he brought up Vancouver Film School. I looked into their programs, saw they not only had a screenwriting course of study, but also had high school programs where I could go and study with their professors for a few days, and the rest was history.
I got to do two of their high school programs — one for screenwriting in 2018, which solidified that it would be the only college I would be applying to, and one in 2019 for their filmmaker programs, just for fun. I was thrilled to be accepted into the program, and I attended their one year Writing for Film, Television, and Games course from August 2019 to August of 2020 when I graduated.
Moving so far away from home and not knowing anyone there was VERY daunting as someone who had never even gone away to a week-long sleepaway camp before, but I quickly realized (right after drowning in tears for about two hours after my parents left to go back home) that Vancouver was where I was meant to be at that time. I had the best time in the program. I met some brilliant writers who I’m so glad I get to call my friends, learned incredibly valuable information from my professors and classes, and truthfully believe VFS is a huge part of who I am today in my screenwriting career.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The Georgia Aquarium is a must, for sure, as well as the World of Coke (if they’re interested)! If it’s a nice day, a stroll around Piedmont Park is also in store, as well as visiting some of the most iconic filming locations in the city (maybe even doing one of the tours that takes you around to see them all!).

Back closer to where I live, I’d take them to the bakery I work at on my day off, and we’d order out from the amazing local restaurants in the area.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Last time I got to do an interview, I said my parents and family, which is 100% true. But this time I want to shoutout all the actors and crew who supported me by working with me on my films. They took a chance on a 14, 15, 16 year old with a dream and little to no experience. Anything I did would not have been possible without them. At the beginning, some of them were friends of mine who just agreed to help out, while others were actors who had zero clue who I was.
As I continued to make films, I’m told my name became a little bit more well known around the Atlanta independent film scene, and I had more people willing to work with me and audition for me, due to my positive reputation. However, they still dedicated their time and energy to work on short films for no pay, snacks and water on set, and an end product they knew they could use for their reel — that’s it. Some of them even traveled to be on set with me!
I will never be able to thank them all enough for taking a chance on me and helping my stories come to life — if you’re reading this, I am forever grateful to you.
