We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan Hosey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jordan, what role has risk played in your life or career?
By default, I am an enneagram 8 which means the challenger. I strive for taking strong stands on things and often, they are risky. I do not typically take unfiltered risks, but risks that most won’t. I take a complex problem and create solutions for them with my heart worn on my sleeve. My passion is what drives my risks, and when you are seriously passionate about the risks you take, they mostly turn out with a great reward in the end. When I have taken risks based on data only, meaning I’m emotionally not invested in the vision, it never works out as the derivative is still missing. I’ve learned when you are passionate about your cause, no amount of risks can sway you from pursuing it, and that’s when you know you’ve made the right bet.
Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I created HBH Realty, an agency known for being “Built Outside The Box” for a reason. I worked with some of the largest brokerages in town, and I felt something was missing. Like it didn’t teach me what I needed and it’s really hard for me to stand next to a vision that I do not buy into. After some years with tons of experience under my belt, I knew I had to create this agency. After all, I’ve mastered the skill of selling a home but what’s next? In this brokerage, I am mostly zoned in on how to turn peoples financial success into financial freedom, and taking financial literacy into a whole new level. I’m baffled we can be in a world where you can order a TV and it can be delivered to your front door in 2 hours, but also in a world where most adults, even our youths, have no idea how money works or how to make it work for you. Something I’m funneling a lot of time into educating and building as the new standard of real-estate. It’s a big vision, and I’m not sure why this hasn’t already been done. But, you can either complain about what isn’t, or you can do something about it and that’s why I created HBH Realty.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One of hobbies is solo soul trips. It’s where I take a trip often by myself to a city I’ve never been before. It allows me to disconnect and march to the beat of my own drum. When I travel, I only visit local shops and restaurants. I do not go to anything “Chain” related. You can always count on the best advise from the bar tenders at spots like this, and meeting locals along the way who only brag about the best things to do. I don’t usually google or even book anything. I live it by being unplanned and serendipitous. That’s the best kind of trip in my opinion, where you allow yourself to walk through doors you’d likely never walk through.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There has been so many people involved in my story, and many advocates and mentors along the way. It would be impossible to point out one person, as there are so many incredible leaders, mentors, and advocates I’ve aligned myself with over the years. One of the most unorthodox “mentors” per se though I’d have to call out Andy Priscella from REAL AF as it’s the type of concepts, talk and journey I appreciate the most. Very blunt, not a sugar coater by any stretch of the imagination and someone who isn’t afraid to call people out, and I respond well to that approach. I’d rather cut to the chase, get to the point, and call it what it is without the excuses involved. We all have challenges, but the beauty is knowing how to navigate through them, and not using them as crutches.
