We had the good fortune of connecting with John Watson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi John, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Several factors led to my decision to start my own business. I worked in Supply Chain Management and the Retail Industry for 20 plus years and never had holiday’s off to spend with family. Every time I wanted to take vacation, I had to ask permission and there was always more work to do when I got back to work. Typically, the more work you do, the more work your boss will find for you to do. I decided, if I was going to continue to work so hard, it might as well be for myself. I chose to create something that can outlive me. In the process, I have built a business that I can pass down to my kids if they decide to migrate to the real estate industry. Additionally, I now own my time. I decide when I want to work and when I want to take off. I honestly cannot even explain how great it feels to go to my kids sports or school activities and not ask someone else if its okay.

What should our readers know about your business?
My company, Whole House Home Inspections, specializes in property inspections for both residential and commercial real estate transactions. We also provide other ancillary services, such as Mold and Air Quality Testing, Radon Testing, Infrared and Home Energy Assessments. Also, we will be launching a Home Inspector Training School, Handyman Services and Mold Remediation business this Spring.

Our mission at Whole House Home Inspections is to provide home buyers, sellers, real estate agents and investors with the best home inspection experience possible, by being authentic in our approach, using the best technology available and earning the trust of our customers to foster long term relationships

Besides exceeding the ASHI and InterNachi Standards of Practice, we inspect every single home, like we are buying it for ourselves. I honestly think this is why we have been so successful as a company in such a short period of time. We take a little longer than most other inspection companies while on-site, but once our customers receive their report the same day, they clearly understand what they are buying or in some cases, not buying. I get excited every time I meet one of our customers to talk to them about their home purchase as I love to share knowledge and information with buyers, realtors and even the sellers, but what I am most proud of; is that I have been blessed with the opportunity to attract, hire and train a new generation of home inspectors. The industry is forever changing and I love that I can employ people that love and enjoy real estate and inspecting just as much as I do.

The road traveled was not easy and honestly, it shouldn’t be. I have a saying, “If it was easy, everyone would do it.” I enjoy being different than other companies and I strongly believe my team enjoys being different as well. We have a great group of talent and we share ideas early and often. We try to anticipate the buyers and realtors needs and work as partners during the real estate transaction. I discovered early on in my business that I would not be the type of company that disappears after the inspection. I still talk to clients from years ago because they know me as their inspector for life.

At Whole House Home Inspections, we believe that our core values will continue to make us the most sought out Home Inspection Company in the Industry because we:

1) Value Honesty
2) Demonstrate Accountability
3) Maintain Consistency
4) Seek Knowledge
5) Embrace Change
6) and Serve our Community

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Interesting topic, I don’t go out much, I’m a home-body (haha), but when friends or family come in town it has to be food and some type of competition so my go to activities are bowling at Stars and Strikes, the Escape Room in Buford, Main Event, or Top Golf. Otherwise, I would rather fire up the grill and then play monopoly, cards or shoot some pool in my basement. Its funny, I love people, but am extremely introverted and would rather not be in crowds. Honestly, the most exciting thing for me is to have deep conversations about the purpose of life and how to enjoy it without the need to post your every move on social media.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Honestly, there are so many people that helped make this decision so easy. But my #1 influencer is my youngest daughter, Ryan. I honestly was scared to leave the comfort of Corporate America, but once she was born I knew that I couldn’t miss out on seeing her grow up. I can’t count how many birthday parties, days at the playground and other family events I missed because I had to work. Kids grow so fast and its unacceptable to miss any of those milestones as they get older. GOD blessed me with a wife that understood that nothing in life is free, so she supported the long hours at work and carried the burden of raising our first 2 kids while I was either at work or traveling for work all those years. I built my business over a 2 year period while working full time and once I saved up enough I decided it was time. I only discussed my intentions with a close group of family and friends and everyone said, “Go for it, you deserve it!” I haven’t looked back and I thank all of them constantly for believing in me, even when I didn’t believe in myself.
