We had the good fortune of connecting with John Dixon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi John, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I wanted to have control of my creativity. So I LLC’d myself. Allowing me to go all in to my acting business and start looking at the entertainment business as just that a “business”. I like to view myself as an independent contractor versus an actor pursuing the craft as a hobby.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me a part from the others is my work ethic. Yes, it does help to have experience and skill but that’s what your training is for (or if you have none, that’s where you start). I have a quick and professional turnaround rate for my auditions which helps elevate me to the front during the casting process. It was not easy. Training is paramount and gathering the right knowledge and equipment became crucial. So I could tape auditions professionally from my home and give the casting director a professional product. Good lighting, good sound, and good quality acting.
I want the world to know that we all wear masks everyday on this stage called life. Might as well, learn to utilize how to wear the mask properly for a better quality of life.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would say let’s check out Inman Park and Cabbage town. I like to call these little neighborhoods, Hollywood South. This is where a lot of the entertainment industry settled when they came here to Atlanta from LA or NY. Usually, I’ll take one of my acting buddies down there to grab an amazing burger at The Albert. Also, a good walk on the Belt Line after is so much fun.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My parents have been an amazing support system through out my acting career. I am one of the lucky ones that had parents that encouraged me into going into the arts.
Also, my girlfriend, Jackie Bialo. She has been so great in helping me with life and being an incredibly loving support system.
