We had the good fortune of connecting with Shantice Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shantice, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
The feeling of making others feel good and beautiful made me feel good. It made me feel inspired. Just being able to add to someone else’s confidence I feel is a beautiful thing in itself.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My journey as a professional makeup artist began with a deep love for helping people feel confident and beautiful in their own skin. What started as a personal passion has grown into a thriving business and a beauty studio where I get to connect with amazing clients every day.

What sets my work apart is my focus on enhancing natural beauty rather than masking it. I believe makeup should empower, not transform, and I always take time to understand each client’s personality, style, and comfort level before creating a look. Whether it’s for a wedding, photoshoot, or special event, my goal is to make my clients feel seen and celebrated.

Starting my own shop was both exciting and challenging. Like many entrepreneurs, I faced uncertainty. I started off in my parents den and then my bedroom, other people’s shops, my apartment and then finally my very own makeup studio, S7 Beauty. Every step of the way I learned something new about my craft, my business, and about myself.

It definitely wasn’t an easy road, especially being from somewhere else such as Washington, D.C. Starting from scratch meant wearing a lot of hats – artist, marketer, business owner, and everything in between. There was times I questioned if I was ready or capable, but my passions and the support of my clients kept me going. From working at fashion shows in Macon, to working for Joi Mebane at The Look By Joi in Greenbriar mall in Atlanta. I’ve learned a lot.

My goal is to build a personal connection with every client and to remain professional. I don’t just do makeup – I listen, I encourage, and I create looks that reflect each person’s individuality. My brand is all about confidence, self- expression, and making people feel their best – inside and out.

I’m proud of how far I’ve come, and I’m even more excited for what’s ahead. I want people to know that no matter where you start, your dreams are valid – you just have to believe in them enough to keep going.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend, who’s not from GA, was visiting, I’d probably most definitely take her to ATL. I would say a good restaurant or a nice spa. I’m not that hip on every thing in Atlanta but I know it’s so many great places to visit in Atlanta and have a great time. Also, I can’t forget about Tybee Island in Savannah. That’s my little quick, mini vacation spot. lol

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to think my late aunt Tina who gave me a makeup kit before she passed away. If it wasn’t for her I would have never experimented. I also want to think my mother because she believed me in me like no other. Her support has always been there and she was my very first client, lol. I also most of all, would love to think my clients. I’m so grateful for being able to service women who not only believe in my visions but also trust me with their lives and beauty. This is for them.
