We had the good fortune of connecting with Joe Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joe, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I found somthing that I thought I was really good at and made it into my dream. It was never a business at first but over time family & friends kept telling me to turn it into a business and so I did.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m most proud that I finally found what I wanted to do in life. Photography really opened a door for me and it pushes me to be creative and I feel I just get to show everybody the way I see things. There’s always the struggle of going through the process of becoming a “professional photographer” and I’m still on the road to becoming one. Facing problems every day from being frustrated with trying to create somthin so unique, trying to perfect different ways to edit, or not getting as many clients. It’s all a challenge and the only way I get through is I just tell myself to relax and stay positive. I never try to worry about the negative cause it’ll only gonna bring me down and put me in a place I’ll have a hard time getting out of. Staying positive is the biggest lesson I’ve learned in and outside of photography. I want the world to know that anybody can do whatever it is they want to do and that they should try the unexpected and chase whatever it is they want. You are in control so you can’t stand around waiting for something to come to you.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had a friend visit from out of town for a week I think I’d give them a tour from va beach all the way to Baltimore Maryland just to show off the beautiful drive and the best of every city. From the beach in vb to the waterfalls in Fredericksburg va, the parks in Richmond and the city of Baltimore. Ima big pizza person so I’d definitely take them to jets pizza and get the pepperoni deep dish with the turbo crust. BEST PIZZA IN VA. I love to chill and drink at bars as well one of my favorite spots is decoys and captain chuckamucks over in Smithfield and Suffolk va. But before we’d take the trip I’d give a day or 2 to introduce them to my team/my family.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
SHOUTOUT BREEZEPARK!! These guys are my family and my biggest inspiration in my life. A special individual shout out to Christian Dillard aka Playknows. He’s been my mentor and like a brother to me since the first day I met him. He’s taught me a lot about photography and he’s always driven me to do better with my photography and to be better as a person.
