We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica King and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I ‘ve always wanted to be my own boss, and make money doing something I love. Having given birth to my 3rd child during a pandemic, I knew it was time to start my business venture. Being in the healthcare field for 15 years, I had all the experience to do so. I craved the freedom to live the life I wanted and to spend more time with my family. My goal is to create generational wealth, while teaching my children the value of hard work and determination.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
1st Choice Medical Billing is a full-service medical billing and credentialing company that is dedicated to helping medical practices become more efficient and save money by allowing them to outsource their medical billing to an experienced reimbursement service. I definitely knew I wanted to be in the medical field in high school. Just didn’t know it would be in billing. I started off taking a healthcare course my senior year. After graduating, I attended technical school and became a Medical Assistant. Over the years, I worked my way up to Office Manager that included performing both administrative and billing duties.
It wasn’t until I worked full-time in a Billing Department, that I knew I wanted to start my own medical billing business. I left that company and became a Billing Manager at a Psychiatric clinic. I was extremely dedicated and enjoyed working there. When the pandemic hit, I started working full-time from home. It was then I knew I didn’t want to return to the office and decided to start my business. My previous employer gave my the opportunity and became my first client. I have launched my website and looking to gain more clients in the upcoming year.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had a friend to come visit for a week, Eating is one of my hobbies, so we would frequent several different restaurants. For a quick breakfast, we would eat at Rosie’s Cafe and Gocha’s Breakfast Bar. We would brunch at The Real Milk & Honey. I am a seafood lover so we would dine at The Chop and Lobster Bar or Rays on The River. If it’s nice weather, we could ride the Ferris Wheel or horse carriage in Downtown Atlanta. Also, if it’s basketball season, we would catch a game at the States Farm Arena. I enjoy doing a variety of different things.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband, kids, and my oldest brother are my biggest supporters. Always encouraging, motivating and inspiring me to keep achieving my goals.

Most of all, God for his guidance and showing his favor in my life. I pray daily and believe that he is the reason I’m right where I’m suppose to be and doing what he wants me to do.
