We had the good fortune of connecting with Jellisa & Teddy Morris and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jellisa & Teddy, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The thought process behind Bear Essentials Consulting, LLC was to establish a family business that would create a positive platform for parents to get support. That was our goal. As we know, “there is no book on parenting.” However, our perspective viewed society as though that quote led to a culture of businesses lacking in the area of parent centered platforms, especially platforms that focus on supporting the parents and the child(ren). As parents we searched for guidance as we prepared for the birth of our children. The search led to research, which answered many of the questions we had about parenting, big and small. Our collection of research, information and first hand experience with parenting our 3 boys (Cameron, 8, Teddy, 3 and Garvey, 1) has developed into what we believe in and stand behind as an important curriculum and resource for parents considering pregnancy, currently pregnant, parents of newborns as well as early aged children. While we focus on the prenatal stages through early aged stages, Bear Essentials Consulting, LLC does offer supportive services for all aged children and adults. From once being those parents, to now, we now can conclude and share that people, especially parents need resources. What adds to the rewards of a having a parent centered platform is that the lives of children are benefiting from the decisions their parents have made to consult with Bear Essentials Consulting, LLC. From the business owner perspective, we wanted to make sure we started a business in something that we were passionate about could help other families. Our goal is to engage our clientele with quality resources: rather than starting with merchandise or product, we wanted to begin with services and offer support with the mentality of being a parent. As many of our clients are first time parents or parents who this is their first baby in 5 years or more, they really appreciate our consultative services as they transition into being a parent of a new bundle of joy!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a proud self proclaimed “Boy Mom”! My experiences with both cesarean sections as well as v-backs allows me to be uniquely equipped to support first-time moms. I have had one cesarean and two all-natural, non-medicated water births myself. I am a huge advocate for breastfeeding, I breastfed all three of my boys and am passionate about supporting other moms on their breastfeeding journey. ‘Mom life’ is an adventure! So, I am here to offer the no filter, real-life “Why didn’t anyone ever tell me that” facts! Currently, Teddy has nine years of experience in education including working with students with disabilities. With his experience as a parent and educator, he offer his knowledge and experiences for parents from diverse backgrounds, support for first-time fathers, and a male perspective. He seeks to provide a safe, judgment-free, positive platform for uplifting families that want to engage in enrichment and empowerment within their own family and community.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
As a family we love to go out on the city and explore on the weekends. Some of favorite spots include the Georgia Aquarium, which is the largest aquarium in the world, the Atlanta Zoo, where we visit with the only giant panda twins in the US, Ya Lun and Xi Lun! A perfect evening for us ends with a great meal at our local neighborhood restaurant, Sandtown Pub. Sandtown, may just have the kept burger secret in the city and it’s just a few miles from the airport. If we are lucky enough to get a date night on the weekend, our favorite spot is, Imperial Fez it’s a really fun restaurant to go to with a unique and ethnic approach. There are belly dancers as entertainment and you have to order the Happy Juice! Thank us later!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
