We had the good fortune of connecting with JB SamSon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi JB, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I chose to pursue a creative/artistic career because i honestly can’t see myself doing anything else. For as long as i can remember, I’ve always had a natural inclination towards creativity and performance. I’ve always loved music and had an appreciation for the arts. I played sports growing up like most kids. I played basketball, baseball and soccer in elementary school. But by middle school i was kind of over it and i realized how much i wanted to be involved in more creative and musical spaces.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Well, I’m a singer/songwriter, rapper, producer and studio engineer. I also have my own apparel brand that i make all the designs for.

I think what sets me apart is my production style and just some of the choices i make musically. I make all my own beats so my songs usually just have a different feel to them. I also try to do my own sound design in my production here and there so I’m not just using the same stock sounds all the time. Haha

Right now I’m super excited about my next project that’s coming out June 10th! It’s called “Overt Thoughts 2: Infinity Loop” and I’m so hype for people to hear it! I definitely think it’s my best body of work yet.

I think i got to where i am professionally by just trying the things i wanted to do. I’ve still got far to go but i also recognize that I’m a lot farther than i was 5 years ago. It’s definitely taken some time but there was so much that i had and still have to learn about the creative spaces and mediums that i operate in, and I’m learning to love every bit of it.

Some of the biggest things I’ve learned along the way have been to put in the work, love the process; don’t rush it, be confident but remain teachable, and most importantly; BELIEVE IN WHAT YOU’RE DOING! It might take a while for others to catch on, so until then and even after, you have to always be your biggest fan.

If there’s anything I’d want the world to know about me and my brand, it’s that i do what i do on purpose. I make music because i know how helpful it’s been to me in my life, and hopefully the music i make can help someone else as well. And i hope my clothing just reminds people that, regardless of how big or small their platform is, what they do matters.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Hmm…I’d say the first thing we gotta do is have a solid breakfast at Toast On Lenox! They’ve got THE best French toast probably ever. Then hit Stone Mountain and go hiking. I love it out there. We’re bringing pb&j’s and some other snacks because I’m tryina be out there all day. Haha

Maybe after that, hit Andretti Indoor Karting and go crazy on the Go-Karts.
And then grab some burgers at Grindhouse!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to give a shout out to my good friends Jarrian Wilson, Alastair Davis, Idris Pearson, and Patrick Rutledge! Those guys have all played a part in me being where i am right now. Jarrian (aka JayWill) recruited me to play drums for his band in 2013, which is how i met Alastair and Idris. Alastair (aka AC The Future) gave me my first feature ever and Idris (aka IICE) gave me my second. I met PATx a couple years ago and he’s just been super supportive from the jump. Dude’s a crazy talented artist and just a great guy. All those guys have mentored me in different ways and I’m so grateful for them.
