We had the good fortune of connecting with Jazzy Jenae’ and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jazzy, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I think of risks as a challenge. Being a business owner within itself is a risk. However, I started with a risk… I didn’t necessarily have a plan I just knew I had to get out of the plan I was currently in because it wasn’t doing me any justice. Taking risks jump started my success and if I wouldn’t have done it…. I definitely wouldn’t be where I am today.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My main stream of income or actual career would be my practice as an esthetician. I perform services such as facials, waxing, sugaring, and advanced treatments. What sets me apart from others is my marketing. Even when I’m off of work, I’m working and that within itself was the key to success for me. I never take a full day off something is always dedicated to work. How I can elevate. What I can say I’m most proud of is my content. These days, almost everyone has social media, in my opinion it’s highly important to have an attractive page. It’s your e-portfolio. I got my suite back in May when I could not find a job in the field that I attended college for. I thought my esthetician services would be my side hustle, however God I had other plans that I couldn’t deny. I’ve had many challenges. Some days no one booked, other days I was booked back to back it’s part of being a business owner. People like me and how I treat them. Getting where I am was not easy, I personally feel that I still have a ways to go but to do it all in the middle of a pandemic and only 7 months, is a major start. Lessons I’ve learned along the way is that yes it’s good to have your people support you, however, make sure the quality is 10 all the way around the board and as business owner. Save and take risks. Never play with all of your marbles unless you have a proven plan. I want the world to know that my brand represents individuality and creativity.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When my friend comes to town we’re definitely gonna kick off their weekend with a service from me whether it’s a facial or a Brazilian. We’d have to go shopping for sure if we plan on going out. I’m really into interesting and physical activity so if it’s a girl, aerial dancing, a guy, maybe something outside. I work for the most part so I don’t get a chance to plan for for its super random however, the belt line is pretty cool.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Being a young entrepreneur you definitely have a lot of mentors. The person that put me on the path to all of this goes by the name of Pearl Fils Aime. I started with Pearl when I was about 13 in her modeling program and worked my way to instructor.. In the mist of working with Ms. Pearl, I also found Myke Robb a veteran in the industry whom introduced me to fashion designer and show producer, Shay Sutton. All of these people became family. Myke was my very first manager and Shay was the first person to give me an opportunity as large as coordinating her fashion show. If it weren’t for any of these people trusting me and my word at such a young age, I’m unsure where I’d be.
