We had the good fortune of connecting with Jazmyne Brooke and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jazmyne, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk taking is hard. However, I’ve learned you never exceed if you continue to do the same things.. Taking risks is what gives us the power to be who we want to be. I took a risk leaving a stable, secure income as an insurance agent. I chased my childhood dream to be a hairstylist. In my late 20’s, with a child, I went back to school to start my journey to build my own business. I graduated college with honors, and now I’m a licensed Master Cosmetologist. None of this would of been possible if I didn’t take the risk to start over again.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am so excited to be licensed! Yes, creating hair visions is one of my goals, but overall it’s also to keep the integrity of my clients’ hair! My license does just that. I love making my clients’ vision for their beauty come to life. It wasn’t an easy process by any means. Reaching the point of starting a brand and building a business meant a lot of sacrifices along the way. The hardest was missing time from my kid. Sometimes I had class during her practices, or sometimes I had to study instead of giving her the attention. I constantly asked myself was I doing the “right” thing starting over and leaving a stable career for a “maybe” career.
This has become the best journey! It’s like people say, “if you do what you love you’ll never work a day in your life.” I love my job. Even if a client comes in upset, I want them to leave happy. I worked so hard to be where I am, and I love what I do.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m really not a “going out” type of person.. My friends & I enjoy grabbing food at a restaurant then going to a bookstore. If I have any “free” time, I’m with my kid, and we’re doing the same thing; finding new restaurants to try and visiting bookstores lol. My daughter is a creative as well, so we love going to museums.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would have to give a shout out to my grandmother, child’s dad, and his mom & sister. As they say, it takes a village. I wouldn’t have been able to go back to school without the love and support from my family.
