We had the good fortune of connecting with Jay Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jay, how do you define success?
Success is defined in direct proportion to the value you add to those around you. We are successful when we help others succeed. Giving is reciprocated universally.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
It started with a catastrophic crash on a football field in Savannah, Georgia many moons ago.

I broke my neck in my junior year of high school, cutting short a promising football career. While recovering in a hideous contraption called a “Halo Brace”…I was introduced to theater by my English teacher through reading a Greek Tragedy aloud in class one day. I poured all my pain and fear into this fictional character and was invited to join the school theater troupe. I have been a THESPIAN from that this to this very moment.

As an actor I can travel through time, embody characters that are perfectly imperfect with experiences I may have never imagined, and move people to laughter, tears, anger or joy! I can be FREE to express every range of human emotion to give YOU permission to do the same.

As an artist it is my responsibility to use my artistry to SERVE humanity. To serve through the exhibition of humanity through my artistry. To make you FEEL and feeling something is essential to being human.

Our world is changing at an exponential rate and we are slowly losing our humanity, our ability to relate, empathize and communicate with each other. The artist is an essential element for the preservation of our collective humanity by telling stories and sharing ideas that remind us all of the beauty, complexity, resilience and power of the human spirit. That’s MY responsibility as an Actorvist!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d first visit the iconic Piedmont Park in midtown (one of my favorite college hangouts back in the 90’s when I attended Morehouse as a Theater Major) to catch some local musicians and beautiful ATL weather.

Then off to the either the Alliance Theater downtown or the Horizon in Little 5 Points (both stages I have performed on) to catch some amazing local theater.

And we’d finish off the evening at Enzo’s Steak in the beautiful new TRILITH community and film studios in my town of Fayetteville, a suburb on the Southside of the city

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Always, to my Best Friend to the end, the answer to my prayer’s, the wind beneath my wings my yesterday, today and tomorrow.

My QUEEN, my wife, my LIFE….April Desiree Jones!
