We had the good fortune of connecting with Javonda Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Javonda, how do you think about risk?
Taking risks can be very scary but overall I’m a risk taker. I’ve always been since day one. The beginning of my journey started with a risk that was worth taking. I dropped out of college to attend cosmetology school. It cost my family being highly upset with me, being laughed at by nay sayers who said I wasn’t going to go far as a hairstylist. I remember being talked about and called “College Drop Out”. My family had made it clear that if I quit college they would no longer support me financially therefore I had to start from zero. I worked a few jobs to help support myself as well my business startup. I always knew what I wanted and I wasn’t going to stop until I got it. Here I am today licensed traveling cosmetologist and Founder/owner of GlamNovaj. I’ve worked hard and built a solid clientele in my hometown (Pompano Beach, Fl), Atlanta Ga, & Los Angeles California by taking many risks. If I can do it all over again I definitely would.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a traveling hairstylist I love being able to have such a huge impact on my different lives. The beauty industry is a very competitive industry but I believe what set me apart from others is my drive, my passion, the connection I have with my clients, as well being talented in many different areas as a hairstylist. I’ve mastered hair, make up as well lashes. I most proud about not giving up when the others didn’t believe in me or didn’t understand my purpose. I’m proud that I didn’t allow life obstacles to consume me. I believe I got to where I am today by being grateful, believing in myself, working smart over working hard & keeping God first. It wasn’t easy I’d be lying if I said it was. I overcame a lot of challenges by accepting them, learning from them and moving forward. Along the way I learned it’s okay to make mistakes in life. It’s okay to fail. Without failures it’s impossible to succeed. I want the world to know I touched many lives and may the legacy continues through my brand GlamNovaj.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m really a food & chill type. I love lounging, good music, good food & hookah. With that being said…Some Amazing spots I recommend to visit in Atlanta Escobar, Paschals, Toast on Lenonx, Zari lounge, Coppercove and the Hive located in Buckhead.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost I would like to Shout out God because I don’t know where I’d be if it wasn’t for the higher source. God has been nothing but more than amazing throughout my entire life as well journey even when times I lost sight of my purpose. Second, I would like to shout out my Grandfather Richard McFadden he plays a major role in my success as well my life. As a grandfather, mentor & business owner of many years my grand father has always been an inspiration to me. He taught me many principals of life, business tips as well keeping God first no matter what. Shout out to my clients especially my LOYAL clients I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for them supporting GlamNovaj. My clients keep me going. They make my day when I make them look and feel beautiful. Shout out to my family & friends they have my back no matter what. I appreciate all the love and support =)
